Changing Server this weekend

Admin

Recommended Posts

Just to let everyone know, our Patron Saint Cam will be changing our server this weekend. The site may not be available for an indefinite time during the switch. It might only be a few minutes, or a few hours. Hopefully it will go smoothly and you'll all survive the temporary withdrawal symptoms you might feel.

Thank you very much in advance.

Hi all,

If you're reading this, you're on the new server -- welcome!

It would be interesting if folks feel the site is now faster/slower/etc. to see if it was worth it! ;)

Faster? How can I tell . . . I'm on dial-up :( :bonk: !

It's looking really good, Cam. Once the threads are untangled it will be fun to get a feeling for the speed over various times of the day/night.

So far, though, in only a few dozen accesses, the speed is significantly better. I'm noticing nearly instaneous response. Looks like ya done good! Thanks. :)

It looks like the thread confusion may have been from some folks to tried to submit posts during a set time period.

Admins can untangle the existing threads, and check to be sure that new threads are now coming in independantly now.

I apologize for the confusion today. There are several posts that have merged. I've been trying to untangle them, but in some cases I need to "invent" new titles or ask for them if possible. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: I've just noticed that some threads have disappeared since yesterday. We will try to recover them tonight.

Hi Cam,

It certainly is faster for me, thanks for that!

Just wondering where the silly merged threads originate from, now. We'll just fix them one by one, as Leslie indicated.

Warm regards, Wim

Hello -- Your clock is off. It is giving strange times and dates. For example, it showed that the last time I visited was 14 August 2004 @ 11:45 PM and it is NOW 14 August 2005 @ 7:52 pm. I hope this helps your debugging process.

I've done some tweaking to the server which should mean things running a bit faster. If you see any problems, gimme a holler!

Cam, a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU for being so gracious and kind. I know that it' sthe group as a whole that makes FPN such a wonderful place, but without your generosity, it wouldn't happen. Thanks for leading the way.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
