Montblanc Briefcase, Authentic Or Fake?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a used montblanc briefcase. I cant seem to find this specific model on the montblanc website or the internet and I wanted to know if this is authentic or not. I bought it on instagram and the seller has a huge selection of used bags of several brands.

The briefcase is quite heavy (empty) and is very well built. It has the aged leather smell on the outside and inside of the bag and the leather on the outside is already showing some damage (under the flap).

I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanks.

Not authentic Montblanc. :(

Montblanc wouldn't print their brand name across the material of a bag like that, nor do they split the words Mont and Blanc with a logo in between them across one single line.

A quick look at the Montblanc web-site shows you how they print their brand name, plus the logos they put on their leather goods and on the material inside.

Like Chrissy said, it is obviously a fake, the logo is totally a bogus attempt to appear to be a genuine item.

+1 and I've had experience of both fake and genuine MB briefcases.

Sadly all the other brands could also be fakes ..... faking bags is a big business nowdays.

Indeed it is. It's a good trick to pretend they are "used" though. That means when they wear out within 5 minutes, the excuse is that it was "used."

To be absolutely honest, I would be amazed if the one pictured was even leather.

JohnDoe22- sorry that all of us folks here gave you some bad news. I would recommend that, if possible, you ought to return the briefcase to the seller, and get your money back. Best of luck.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
