Finally Decided On A Grail Pen

After much tortured deliberation and countless hours obsessing over different websites, and seeing as how I cant afford nor find an available LB5, Ive decided the closest Im ever going to get is a Sailor King of Pen. My question is, which one??? Are they all pretty much the same interior guts?

If by guts you mean the same cartridge or converter, then yes they are all the same except the piston fill pen they made for the 95th anniversary of the company in an edition of 600 (500 for domestic sale and 100 of international).

Thanks. So the price differences are really for the labor involved in creating the exterior body I guess. Good to know.

What nib are you thinking about getting in the Sailor? Just curious.

EDIT: OMG I see they have them in ebonite

I may not have been much help, but I DID bump your thread up to the top.

Or marketing or exclusivity or different color plastic bits for LE pens.

There have been a bunch of special/limited editions of Sailor KOP, and it is extremely hard to even search what they are. As my grail pen, I searched some on-line retailers, and I think nibs.com by John Mottshaw has wide range of Sailor KOPs with different finishes.

I'm particularly interested in the Urushi models, not Maki-e and bare ebonite. If you don't like flourish Maki-e art, like me, the Urushi models would be a good option.

A grail pen is unobtainium. Once you find a grail, your heart goes on to find another. It's the thrill of the chase, not really the pen. So what's next?

Well, I've got a medium cursive italic 1911 Large currently and it's definitely my favorite pen in my collection so far. But I'd like to get a different kind of nib for the KOP, just don't know which one yet. The bespoke ones on Anderson seem like they're not going to be available for a long while. But for a KOP, probably something broad nibbed seems more appropriate, right?

Yep, that Urushi KOP seems to be the exact one I'm circling toward. Losing sleep over it.

If I can someday obtain this unobtainium, I've promised myself I will be done. No more pens. We'll see how that goes.
