Are we so sure of that?

I'd rather keep my meatspace and virtualspace me's separate.

Yes we are positive as I Moderate both, however if you don't wish to join the Facebook group that is entirely your choice. :)

I am not on Facebook. Can someone let me know what the difference in content is between the forum and FB sites (official and unofficial)?

Maybe it's time for me to stop lurking in the shadows... :)

Totally different Leonard. The footfall is markedly more here and is much more structured.

The Facebook group is nowhere near as large, posts are varied and not as easily searchable by subject.

The group known as "The Fountain Pen Network" Facebook group has nothing to do with us as such, we are aware of the issues which have occurred there but we have no legal claim on the name and have no control over their behaviour.

"The Official Fountain Pen Network" Facebook group is us and there is no impropriety in that group.

I applied to join the official FaceBook group today. I hate FB with a purple passion (Watch for the purple ink!), but applied to join because of this community. I look forward to learning, growing and sharing with you there, as well as here. Reading through this Forum has been interesting and not a little instructive. I am contemplating an attempt to form a loose-knit MeetUp group for Middle Tennessee. I'm cordially ambivalent about it, but if there is a decent interest, it could be nice. It could include a couple of decent-sized communities (Nashville, Murfreesboro Tennessee being among them).

Any ideas, suggestions, ransom demands?

Answer the questions on the Facebook Group and you’re in. As far as a group local to you is concerned, write a post and see if you can get anyone interested!!

Not being on any social networks outside of this one, is this group still around?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
