The longer I stare at this the more I want to listen to the French national anthem for some reason.

Seems reasonable to me. :)

COOL! It has a really painterly quality. Nice combination of sparkly and non-sparkly!

I wrote so much with the Camelien that I had to refill the pen.

Oh, nice combo, what are you doodling with it?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Early Jan I chose Kaweco Palm and J Herbin Lie de The' for this month's "Perfect Match." Only while uploading to FPN did I remember using Palm for Week 52 of 2017, also. Is it obvious how much I love Kaweco Palm??

That green is calling my name...

Also, the more pictures of Lie de Thé I see, the more unimpressed it leaves me. In comparison, Ambre de Birmanie and Cacao du Bresil seem much more interesting, even though their primary color initially didn't appeal to me.

Glad you like it, RoyalBlue! This IS a LOVELY green. I had a sample and am ordering a bottle, asap! Lie de The is also lovely but it takes the right pen, a wet broad. As much as I love my Edison, the stub doesn't do justice to LdT. It's a richer, well-behaved, great-shading brown. We will agree to disagree on Ambre de Birmanie. After reading many fantastic reviews of it, I ordered the cartridges....and promptly PIFed them. On Cacao du Bresil, we agree again :-) I used to keep it in a pen, but it's been awhile - time to rotate CdB into a pen again. Thank you for the reminder!

What let you down about Ambre de Birmanie? Shading, dry times, staining issues?

Cacao du Bresil left me unimpressed on pictures, but I've seen it on page thanks to my pen-pal, and I thought "woah, okay, never thought I'd be intrigued by a grey."

Good question! For me, Ambre de Birmanie is one of those rare inks that I preferred in online pics. I was completely disappointed by the color of this ink on the page in person. Papers I tried were Tomoe River, Clairefontaine, and Leuchtturm.

You brought up interesting thoughts. For me, whether I like an ink is 99% about it's color (including it's shading and/or sheen). Dry time, shading, even feathering & bleeding have yet to turn me off an ink that is visually appealing. Inks having great color but other poor qualities, only create extra caution for when and how I use them.

Grays - I get that! CdB & Noodler's Lexington are my go to gray inks. Gris de Payne will likely be added some time in the future, and I recently saw another I'd like a sample of. Oh, what was it?? Time to search the gray ink reviews :-)

My perfect vintage look combo

Cacao du Bresil + Alt Goldgrun

...it would look great as embroidery pattern, on black velvet, on brown leather, or on red...

(you will ignore the lack of artistic talent, will you?)

I know it's kinda very late, being the last day of the month and all... I've actually written this up the first week of january, then did not have the energy to scan and upload it... (it's been a difficult time, with the death of my mother in law last december, I've been reading and sometimes posting, but have not really participated in any of the ongoing projects, even when I had planned to...)

Anyway, here it is, my combo for the month: Q'Eternity(Noodler's), KWZI Turquoise (the non-IG version), and Blackstone Sydney Harbour Blue, my current favorite. In person it is somehow darker than what the scanner transferred to the computer...

I am coming back to playing with inks, but mostly I'm drawn back here for the talk about paper, these days.

Still, I'm awaiting a new Indian-made pen...

I'm sorry to hear about your mother in law! It's a very lovely ink combo though. It's like greenish blues at different brightness and darkness.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
