What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today? 2018 + 2019

It's so really nice and minimal, to me.

What about build quality and nib performance ?

The build quality of the N2 is just OK. The clip feels sturdy. The cap is screwed on, plastic to metal thread so the feeling is not great. I don't want to screw it tight, fearing the cap might crack even with that metal ring. I used to put it in my bag and it became loose a few times and the ink in the nib dried up. My N2 has an EF nib which is not the smoothest but not a scratchy nib. Ink flow is also not the best and can have hard starts and skipping sometimes. For me it is a pretty pen, but not a EDC type, so now it's in a box in my cabinet.

Reloaded a 618 with pelikan 4001 black for work. I hope this pen's piston is a little more solid than that of the 698. Seems like it but it may still not last forever.

I actually converted to using the WS 601. Fills super quickly, holds a lot of ink, nib is finer and works on (bleep) paper. Also has a slide cap. The only thing is I have to pull the cap slowly so ink doesn't get pulled out of the feed. This is a nice pen that feels difficult to destroy and holds on well to my shirt. Convenient for my hospital job.

When I get an office and work from a more static environment and don't need a clip, I may consider one of those Opus 88 pens (or a Moonman C1, provided there is not a new model to take its place) for good ink capacity.

The WS 601 is really an excellent EDC pen. I just can't seem to get it out of my fountain pen rotation especially when it is only filled with a waterproof black ink.

First off this is not a Youth Fountain Pen, its from the brand 玉蘭 " Yulan " ( as in Yulan Magnolia the flower ) , its a 3rd tier / local mfr based off Shanghai and cater to the low end market ; this is likely one of the 22X range of products as its ( except for the finishing ) the same pen as other 22X range model, the nib stamping is the Chinese text of the brand's name. The brand had been there since the 60's and go defunct sometime in the 90's. This model clearly with its Cloisonne finishes, are aimed for the bit of up market mid range sector ; just as so many other local / 2nd / 3rd tier manufacturer they got these pen engineering part ( basically the nib / feed basics ) from the big names. Its their of their own manufacturing but the nib / feed mechanism was originated by Hero and Wing Sung ( Hero 441/241/841, Wing Sung 22X/20X ) and was used on many different brand and models and still fit some current Hero models

I am using a vintage Hero 510 in black and green. For a cheap lightweight pen it has a decent steel nib that provides some line variation.

thanks for the information sir, i picked this one on local flea market and looks like i got misidentified it just because the metal sac protector was stamped "Youth" (someone could easily swap it because it comes from same OEM model from HERO, Wingsung, etc) so i thought that this was fully Youth FP (since i couldnt read chinese character on the nib), yesterday i found out that the barrel decoration technique was "Cloisonne" and found several Chinese brand like Wingsun, Baihe, GoldenStar (GSP).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
