My First Fountain Pen Project!

Recommended Posts

What's up FPN!? Today is a truly awesome day! I have made a couple of purchases to make my own personally awesome pen! Not doing a lot here, just had an idea an praying it works. If someone has already done this, please chime in. This is what will happen...

I'm going to take this pen body:

and add this nib to it:

Like I said, not a really big deal, but this will be my first time trying something like this. ASA Pens, for a small upcharge, will use Jowo nibs in their pens. This is why I'm thinking it'll work. I'm hoping I can using the entire housing for this too. Again, if you all have any words of wisdom on this please let me know. It won't be the end of the world if I can get it to work. (I'll just need to buy another pen. ;p)

Stuff is en route now, so it'll be a while before the magic happens. I will update this as stuff comes in and all of the processes used to put it together, which most of you probably already know anyway. Thanks in advance as always and I'm really forward to my first project.

With no experience ever changing a nib, all I can offer is encouragement and praise for your adventurous spirit. Can you share a bit more about the nib you’ll use?

Ink Chick,

Thanks for the reply. I have pulled or unscrewed a nib/feed and housing before, but I've never done this. Still new to the game. B) The Franklin-Christoph "Christoph" is a 1.9mm steel music nib of sexiness, that is made exclusively by JOWO for Franklin-Christoph. It comes in a chrome version as well and is only available in a #6 nib. Ever since I realized I liked stub nibs, I've wanted a music nib. I'm a sucker for demonstrators and eyedroppers too, so this will be my ultimate combo fountain pen! I hope this answered your question and thanks again for the reply.

*Update: Project Completed!!! :D

What's FPN?! I have finally completed my Franklin-Christoph/ASA project! Going to give pictures (some aren't very good...my bad) and dialogue where needed. First thing I had to do was knock the feed and nib out. Didn't have a knock-out block (wanted to get one, but too impatient to order and wait ...), so I used an Allen wrench to knock it out. Saw this on Youtube, so I applied it accordingly:

After watching this, this is where I was:

Next, I put the Christoph nib and ASA feed housing together. At this point and time, I realized I damaged the feed. :yikes:

Luckily everything worked out. ;) Here are some pictures of the pen filled, capped and uncapped.

Writing sample:

Needless to say, I absolutely love my little project! It writes very well, but man does it go through ink! This is the first of many things I plan to try in the future. Thanks to all for taking the time to read this post and if you have any questions, I'll try and answer them to the best of my ability.

I forgot to mention that I used Pilot's Iroshizuku Asa-Gao "Morning Glory for the ink.
