What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2018

I'm sure Pablo will happily sell you a #5 stub.

I forgot all about fpnibs! Thank you for reminding me!

And I bought yesterday my second Wing Sung 698 as the new housing of my Pilot Pluminix B nib. I know it sounds ridiculous, buying a pen just to put another nib in it, but the Pluminix is way too awkward to hold, truly I can't cope with it anymore.

Some of you with nothing better to do may remember that at the end of last year I ordered a Montblanc Blue Hour LeGrand with an OM nib from La Couronne du Comte. Yesterday, I finally received word that the pen has been shipped. I hope the wait was worth it, even though I did get the pen at a good discount.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I'm currently awaiting a Pilot Custom 74 from Japan and a Lamy 2000 from England! Spanning the globe with FP purchases, I guess!

Waiting for my K400 in blue, and L2K rollerball. Still looking for that complimentary secondary pen for when I can't use a fountain pen. The K400 is stupid expensive for what it is, but there aren't many options out there for a luxury click action ballpoint, and I doubt I'll be able to unload it for decent money if I don't like it. So here's to hoping it's as charming as it looks!

I'll admit that the last few pens I bought have been in the wild, or at pen shows. Nothing on order at the moment.

Two more Kaweco Sports, an Art Sport in Rosit & a Sport made for the Chinese market, "Green Industry," which looked a bit Army Greenish to me when I saw fellow Member & Super Moderator, Mehandiratti, share his here, on 08 January, 2018.

I have watched the latter pen make it's way from China & am happy to say it is within 60 miles from my house!

Jinhao “159” in black and gold. Going to “fake it until I make it” on the 149 purchase. Hopefully by the end of summer. I’m pretty set on rose gold trim on the Montblanc though.

Someday the mountain might get em but the law never will.........

At the Chicago Pen Show, I left a Franklin-Christoph Italian Ice with the wonderful F-C people to help me remove a set of unsightly stains. They took it back home to thoroughly clean it, and I received word yesterday that it is in the mail on its way back to me.

An, although it is still a gleam in my eye, I ordered a custom pen from Ryan Krusac right after CPS. With a little luck, it may be in my hands in the next couple of weeks.

A Pilot Custom Heritage 912 from Pendleton Brown. I sent him my 912, with a BB nib. It wrote beautifully and very wet. It’s line was nearly twice as wide as its nib. It was as broad as tall, no line variation, which I love. PB sent me a writing sample before depositing it in the mail. Gorgeous!

That would be a Montblanc 146, from the 1980s I am pretty sure (will check the detail) with 14k nib. That completes the half dozen I wanted, from mid-1950s to 1990. It is not the modern versions or LEs that interest me.

Just put in for an Allegory Cap in Israeli olive wood. Seems like an interesting pen in this material. I dont have an olive wood pen. It was an option on the Omas Milord but I went both ebony wood and a rosewood edition. The olive wood didnt suit that pen so much but on this pen it looks great. This model also has a magnetic cap of which Ive grown to love on my Visconti Pininfarina Designo and Michelangelo. I splurged for the 1.4mm stub nib. Its steel and I dont have a 1.4mm stub. That saves me an hour or so to grind the nib to size. 1.5mm Lamy, yes. 1.3mm Visconti, yes. Not sure what to expect of the 1.4mm steel stub. Didnt even know Bock made one. It should be interesting. Massdrop has some really screwball buys now and then. This one should be a fun pen. Its unique to me in a few ways with the olive wood and the magnetic closure not to mention the nib size. I like wood pens and this one has a good amount of figuring in the wood. Looking forward to it!

Just took a look at “industry green” Kaweco. Is it resin? Looks kind of 1950’s retro green to me. Very interesting pen! Very odd color for the Chinese market to me.

No, it is just the injection molded plastic, as all the other Kaweco Sports; it's appeal to me was the unusual color. I would call it a "sage" green for lack of better word, yet the "Industry Green,"offers a fair suggestion of it's color as well. I swapped a 1.5 italic nib into it & filled it with a Montblanc's Racing Green cartridge & thought it a fine housewarming celebration for a pen that had traveled from China to live with me!

I have a weak spot for the Sports; I also discovered an orange one sold for the Spanish market & managed to track it down last year. The Art Sports have the nicer acrylic finishes & lack the injection mold marks of the plastic Sports, yet the unusual colors justify the cost of these for me.

They both arrived the same day & the rosit Art Sport definitely has the nicest finish of the two pens, yet I reach for the green one before the red one! There was also a Steel Blue, equally drab as my green pen made for the Chinese market, sold concurrently with the Utility Green; the red AL Sport pen was introduced there last year as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
