Well I've gotten the Japan Post tracking info for the Decimo, as of this morning. Hopefully it will not take too long to get through US Customs once it arrives stateside (the seller said it's generally 10-14 days because it's being sent airmail, but could take 3-4 weeks; and that there may be delays due to the time of year). But the seller did have 100% positive feedback, which is a good sign. The first bit of correspondence back and forth took a couple of days, but with abject apologies for the delay from the seller (I had asked whether there was a converter included, because the English translation with the listing was a bit odd, and I needed the clarification in order to factor in the cost of a converter if necessary).

My LAMY Al-Star in Graphite, with an F nib, is STILL on its way...it's been 2 weeks but that's all my own fault for not double checking the address. I'm excited to finally see this babe!!

Now I’m waiting for a Kaweco AL Sport in raw aluminum. I took advantage of Federalist Pens’ Black Friday discount and the owner’s gracious offer to check and test the nib for me before shipping (since I had a bad experience with my Sport Ice purchased elsewhere).

Happy post-Thanksgiving everyone!

Now on order:

  • a 'stealth' Aurora Talentum Full Black (or is that 'Black Ops'?) pen with a ruthenium-plated 14K gold factory stub nib, which I've just been advised is not currently in stock, and will be several weeks before I receive it
  • the twelfth Pilot Capless pen in our household, with a 'desert orange' barrel, matte black trim and a black ion-plated 18K gold EF nib
  • two additional Pilot Capless nib assemblies, with 18K gold stub nibs in different finishes
  • a Nemosine Singularity with a steel F nib, to join the ranks of the five dozen or so cheap, knockabout pens that won't earn a place in the wooden display boxes or leather carry cases we have
and the Diplomat Aero I ordered on Fountain Pen Day weekend still hasn't arrived, even though it supposedly left the Netherlands a week ago according to the tracking information.

That, and about twenty or so other pens from China ordered on 'Singles Day'.

If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

A Krone Metaphor that I bought at the London Pen Show about 6 weeks ago, which turned out to have an ossified sac (it wouldn't fill, anyway, sigh).

Contacted Krone, who said they'd repair it, and I know it arrived at the address I sent it to, but have heard nothing and no reply to my follow-up email. Getting a little worried.

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Mmmmm yeah, that desert orange is such a beautiful finish!

And the Decimo has made it to the US! Last tracking email update has it in Queens! I'm kinda surprised -- I would have thought that coming from Japan it would have come into the West Coast, not the East Coast (not that I'm arguing, mind...).

I cracked.

Just placed an order for the (non-Century) Platinum #3776 in brown tortoise celluloid finish with an F nib, even though the price wasn't as low as I've seen this week (by a difference of about US$10), and there aren't any other discount or cashback offers in play that I just couldn't pass up.

Bahaha I know the feeling....thankfully some items are taking weeks if not months to make it to me from overseas so that it won't seem like I blew so much cash all at once. ;)

I haven't bought a pen in a while but was browsing and, after a few glasses of wine, ended up winning the auction on this Nettuno. I have no experience with this brand but I'm hoping it writes as nice as it looks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
