What Pen Are You Waiting For In The Mail 2018

RMN

Recommended Posts

I still haven't received my Sailor 'Proske' pen with a Zoom nib or my Pilot Elite 95S in bronze/burguny that I've ordered, and Rakuten Global Market just offered me a code for 3,200 yen off transactions of 30,000 yen or more. Darn it!

So, now I have a few more pens on order yet to arrive:

  • Sailor koshu-inden (red sakura pattern) with an MF nib
  • Pilot Vanishing Point with a deep red wooden barrel and EF nib
  • Platinum #3776 Century 'Black in Black' with a Music nib

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Not a pen exactly, but I'd been shopping for Ferrous Sulfate (to use in iron gall). But it's so hard to find chemicals in North America! Everyone's a suspected meth-smith or arsonist until proven innocent. Since I'm not a doctor, don't operate a water plant, and don't keep hogs, I finally gave up and ordered Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate (better anyway) from Belgium of all places.

And if anyone else tinkers with iron galls I recommend the same. Plain Ferrous Sulfate doesn't keep, in its bag or in your ink. Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate lasts many times longer and is 10x less toxic anyway. The "real" iron galls still made now apparently use it.

And now to wait.

For discount international shipping.

Grant me patience.

Something from China got ordered and arrived faster than this did, so I gave the seller a nudge. They instantly refunded my money, even though I didn't even ask for a refund! That is odd... I wonder what it means, besides "You're not getting that parcel".

On the plus side, I might spend that refund on a Delike Alpha.

I usually read that as, “We never dispatched the order in the first place, regardless of whether we marked it as sent on the marketplace platform.” I've had that happen several times, including with >$200 pens from Japanese sellers. I don't know which game they're playing.

Sometimes seller indicate a parcel as sent so you see that they shipped the item super-fast and write a positive comment about that. Then they actually move onto preparing the parcel and... lo and behold, they don't have that item in stock. Refund the client and order the item to be re-stocked.

A JIF 2 in pink with looks like sort of teal clip/section. Very excited.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Thanks to an enabler at the Christchurch Pelikan Hub (you know who you are), I have 2 Opus88s on the way: the Purple and the Demonstrator. I think they’re both beautiful pens and can’t wait have them in my hands.

Posted my pre-order for the new Pelikan orange M600 about 5 seconds after receiving the announcement from La Couronne du Comte.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
