Parker T1 Ballpoint Pen And Pencil Set

I really know nothing about pens. My son collects fountain pens and ball point pens. He seems to like Parkers, shaeffers, water mans, and Mont Blanc. I dont typically buy him pens since I dont know enough to know what to pay. Today I came upon a Parker T1 pen and pencil set in a box. They look like they were never used. I googled T1 and found that its desireable as a fountain pen. I cant find much info about the T1 ball point. My question is, do you think this pen and pencil set would be a welcomed gift? Or is it not worth anything since its not a fountain pen. Thanks for your help.

My initial response is that it's probably a desirable pen, since the T1 was generally a flop. However, I don't know much about BPs or FPs. The FPs are desirable nowadays because they're notorious for the tipping material on the nib breaking off, as it's hard to weld it to titanium. So ones with intact tipping are rare. Not great for using, though, unless you have a specialist retip it.

 

Not sure if the ballpoint or pencil is equally as desirable. Good on you for looking into your son's interests! If this doesn't turn out to be what you want, PM me and I'll help you find something else!

Buying pens for other people is like buying clothes, it's luck of the draw whether they fit, it's the style they like, the nib size is what they enjoy ,etc. Pen accessories are a much safer bet. A couple bottles of nice ink and a pen wrap would go down very well with almost any fountain pen enthusiast.

T1 ballpoints and pencils are rare items from a premium brand, so are desirable to collectors. They are related to the well respected Parker 75's, so they would probably make good users (although they are rare enough that I would not use them).

 

If your son doesn't like them he could sell them for a not insignificant sum, then buy something he likes.
