Another Scam On Ebay

Hi forum.

I've just placed a bid on a won on a listing on eBay. I only saw the listing 7 minutes from its end time, so my research had to take place after bidding.

It didn't take long to find other listings involving

- a "Mont Blanc Boheme Fountain Pen, rare discontinued model with no stone",

- all of which have a short description which states: "pen has been gifted to me in 2004",

- and all of which come from sellers which have 100% feedback in the range of 30-40 stars.

- All of these sellers have no other items and nothing else shows on their "completed listings", which indicates they have been inactive for a long time. I am assuming these are all hacked accounts with their original owners not even realising someone's using their accounts for this scam.

Please beware and report as appropriate.

That said, bummer I won't gt any MontBlancs for me this week. e_e

It might be ok. Some eBayers only use the account to sell, so might only be on there a few times a year. I have recently opened a new account for pens only, so my feedback is relatively low. All good reasons to be low users of ebay, but the service might be great. Fingers crossed!

Absolutely!!!

MB produced a Boheme without a gem and then discontinued this particular model.

Thanks for your response guys, but I was not suspecting the genuinity of the model. This is not an "is this real or fake" post.

It's the pattern in the listing that I want to highlight. It just happens that all scammy listings I've found in my search today use the same "no stone" model but they are all posted by the same scammer who got access to several accounts that did not originally belong to him.

The seller has now got back in touch and is asking to withdraw the sale instead of sending me the photos I've requested. It's an obvious scam I just want you guys to be careful because this time they're using MB pens (they use all sorts of desired objects in their scams. I buy photographic gear and see a lot of these patterns.)

Take care everyone.

Thoughts like this are exactly why these scams exist

If it even seems like it MIGHT be a scam, there's approximately a 143,007% chance it's a scam.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Have you reported this to Ebay?

You bet I did.

First I asked the seller to "document" the pen before posting it to me: take photos of serial numbers and all. I told them I will check it for genuinity and if it's fake I will send it back. They tried their best to cancel the transaction and I tried to push it forward. Then they cancelled the sale claiming "item no longer for sale or broken", etc.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
