Well it's Summer here and yesterday was 35C so I am wanting to cool down. When I prepared this sample it was between 2 heatwaves. Today (Thursday) we are having another brief respite from the heat. I hate Summer. :bawl:

Thanks for your idea Lgosltek.

While I found the weekly ink posts great and they encouraged me to explore more inks, I think the weekly theme can be challenging. I like the idea of ink pairing themes and think weekly pairings will be difficult, so monthly is a good idea.

Thank you for your feedback! And that's a nice sheeny ink!

I have to write it down or I forget. :D

Nice! If you're gonna use an orange, it should indeed be very bright and cheerful. :) (Of course, if I spend too much time thinking about it, I'll remember that I like the online store swatches of Monteverde (I think, Monte-someone anyway) Copper Noir, which looks sort of dark orangey, so I guess I like the other end of the spectrum too. <sigh> I'm hopeless. )

Swab #0 on the right hand edge is Diamine Ancient Copper, and I also find it a little more 'brick' :)

I find Ancient Copper browner, more "brick".

:headsmack: I can't believe I didn't spot those swabs! D'oh!

This is supposed to be red. In person it is much more of a coral / orange color.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Here's mine; I went with killing both seasons with one post.

Also a way to say that I'm looking forward to next year's ink pairing themes.

Gorgeous! What does the wax do?

Thank you.

I wasn't in the "zone" to draw every scale so I gently rubbed a bit of wax from a tea light onto the paper which allowed just a little of the ink wash to sink into the paper hopefully giving the impression of scales.

Thank you. It really is my favourite orange . . . not that I have many. Only an Ahab has about a 1/4 fill of Habanero and there's 3/4 bottle of Terracotta are the only ones left in the drawer now.

Jaw-dropping, gorgeous art. I had to stare at it for a full minute before I could scroll down.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
