149 Nib Discoloration

I am considering purchasing this 149 from the 1980s. Does anyone know how to remove the dark discoloration on the nib. A very light wiping of the brown area with sunshine cloth will take care of it. However this patina is desired by many including me. So you can let it remain if you wish.

Great. Thanks for your help. I don’t mind the patina, but wasn’t sure if there was an additional problem given the area of difference noted on the side view (i.e. plating problem).

Here is an example of an old 1960s MB that came to em with discoloration. I liked it quite a bit:

This all came right off when a buyer wanted it polished. Looked like a new yellow gold nib (minus a few scratches from years of use).

They look great! I love a bit of patina on gold.

 

As mentioned, easy to get rid of with a wipe from a jeweller's cloth. But, if you decide you want it back, it will take years!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
