Non-Esterbrook Nib Suggestions For An Esterbrook Js And A #16 Silicone Sac Source

I know that there are plenty of threads regarding some issues I'm having with my Estie Lever fill circa '40's (sac not expanding when filling though it's a new one, feed not running properly, etc..), but what I am posting for was some recommendations from you all for an F or EF preferably non-flex nib. I'm already aware that the #1550 (EF) or #1461 (F) can't get the hob done, but a less scratchy EF would be sweet. I've got. Zebra G Comic on it now, but would like to have the option of putting her into my daily carry rotation and I write small so usually carry F/EF. I'd prefer to have an entire unit for her (section, feed, nib). Also, is there a comparable silicone sac that I could fit her with as the silicone had a better fill property because of the former spring of the material over latex)? Andersen Pen for example has listed 14, 15, 17, and 18 1/2 sized silicone sacs, but no 16's... does someone have 16's for an Estie JS? Or can I put a 15 silicone sac on an Estie? I'm sorry if these seem like silly questions. So suggestions for either the nib/unit, silicone sac, and/or sellers would be greatly appreciated and I thank this entire community that helps each other out with rare animosity displayed in the public area. Thank you for your indulgence and I do hope this discussion might be beneficial to many more than just my needs..

I'll edit this with pictures this afternoon because she really is a beauty.

Osmiroid nibs fit...I have a six pack of italic nibs, BB, B, M, M-F, F, EF.

There are other Osmiroid nibs from that time that fit the Esterbrook.

A 15 sac will fit...

rubber is reputed to be better than silicon....it's been ages since I had enough Esterbrooks to worry about, but read then not to use the silicon.

There is a Esterbrook sub section where you could get better answers.

German vintage '50-70 semi-flex stubs and those in oblique give the real thing in On Demand line variation. Modern Oblique is a waste of money for a shadow of line variation. Being too lazy to Hunt for affordable vintage oblique pens, lets you 'hunt' for line variation instead of having it.

You might try a 9550 or 9556.

If the sac is staying flat, that's not because the material isn't springy enough -- something is wrong with the pen, probably a clogged point.

Pelikan M2XX and M4XX nibs will screw into the Esterbrook J. They protrude a bit farther than Esterbrook nibs, but I have written with them in a J in order to get an acceptably smooth extra fine nib. I have used the M200 gold plated nib and the M400 14K EF nib. I believe these nibs protrude from the section less than 1/8 inch.

I think sections are hard to find, and variability in manufacture means that some sections will not fit some barrels.

I have done surgery and replace the Esterbrook nibs with generic Chinese M nibs (= western F). They write great.

I think it is NOT recommended to use silicone for a lever filler.

I have not had any problem with latex sacs on my Esterbrooks.

If it is not filling, the nib unit may be clogged and needs cleaning.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
