Nice reading. Thank you, Tom.

From the same article: "There’s also a pristine sheet of blotting paper, replaced every day and black in colour so no one can read what she has written by holding it up to a mirror."

I use a white one. Maybe the reason I'm not a member of a royal family? :D

Burgundy Parker 51s with Gold-filled Caps

Queen’s Burgundy Parker 51

~ Zdenek:

Black blotting paper...that's a fresh twist. It must deter any would-be James Bonds.

The two old-timers at the top are both burgundy Parker 51s with gold-filled caps.

They happen to be the same type of fountain pen that Queen Elizabeth II uses at her desk.

Rainy days are ideal for relaxed writing with a fountain pen, a cup of tea with honey, fresh lemon a a sprinkling of cinnamon on the desk.

Happy!

~ Reed_thoughts:

Thank you!

The local area has had four weeks of fairly intense rain.

That's anomalous and is therefore viewed as a special blessing.

The large river which rises near here is the longest tributary of the Yangtze.

There are substantial old growth forests on the extensive mountains around the river.

This rain nourishes their root systems and the thriving biological community beneath their boughs.

Ah, you've read my heart's desire.

If it were a standard option, there would be several on my writing desk.

Without any question, the most pleasing and the most consistently remarkable fountain pen nib I've ever used.

~ When a cherished aspect of daily life goes missing, the absence reinforces what was taken for granted.

The dedicated work of Fountain Pen Network Administrator Wim and the volunteer Moderators makes available a largely civil, welcoming space for fountain pen users and collectors.

They've been upgrading the FPN software, which necessitates occasional outages.

How nice to have it back. I'd written to Zdenek, asking him if he was able to access FPN. He kindly replied when it was back and running.

Thank you to Wim and associates for handling the tedious work of software change.

Tom Kellie's supreme photography is stunning. And inspiring.

For one, to keep on acquiring more pens to showcase. But now it has also had me gift myself a Sony Alpha 7M3 camera.

Great pictures Pravda! :)

I would be tempted to buy the Sony camera myself if I thought it could deliver pictures like this for me, but I am sure there is more to getting pictures of your quality than just the new camera :)

Stop enjoying it and kindly pop it in the post, as requested earlier. ;) You are a bit far for me to personally pry it out of your hands.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
