REDUNDANCY! REDUNDANCY!

Nights are by nature dark.

When I was a teenager, we would go out to the desert at night.  On full moon nights, you could see long distances and cast a shadow.  On moonless nights, it was scary dark..

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

If the Ink Goddess says to start, then I will get it started in an hour or so. I am your humble servant.

My godfather who was an RAF fighter pilot during WWII said full moon on a clear night called a 'bomber's moon'.  Flying at high altitude, the bomber crews of Bomber Command on their nightly missions over Occupied Europe could look down and see the landscape lit up although dimly which made finding and hitting their targets easier.

I am wondering (wandering too) does all of this back and forth banter make us "lit-wits"?

or am I just being to picky?

I think the correct word is witlings.

In fact Paul, when one is teaching something to "someone" repetition is vital. It's a VERY rare quality on the part of a "learner" to be able retain even important information based on a single "hearing". In my experience, the ability, on the part of a teacher, to restate the same information in different ways help the brain process information and retain it more efficiently and more effectively.

Metaphors and similes also assist individuals to learn because there are multiple learning styles and people's brain processes input differently. IIRC John (?) Gardener, a professors at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, speaks of different types of intelligence in addition to only the intellectual kind.

An old acquaintance used to say, It's not how smart are you, it's HOW are you smart?"

“Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today, because if you do it today and like it, you can do again tomorrow!”

Had a tough husband wife moment today. Walked past a Milligram store and said I was going in for a browse. She asked a killer question - why, what do you need? I struggled to answer intelligently.

Speaking from personal experience,  the wisest thing we men can do at times like that is to say, 'I was hoping to find something for you that you might like.'  It's that or change the subject and keep walking

Oh, I understand. I just give the blank look - then say, I need to walk up and down each aisle.  1. Because it is good exercise in air conditioned comfort (remember it is really hot right now in Vegas so outside exercise is a no go);  and 2. Once I see it, I will know that I need it.

Ooo that's good.

Or you knew I liked these kinds of stores when we started dating. (My first gift to my now husband was a tape dispenser).  And then give the big doe eyes.  Surely your wife doesn't want you shopping without her, who knows what kind of trouble you could get in.

I loved it too. And I will admit to having - but not yet having used - two MQ graph paper 600 pages notebooks.

The trouble is there is so much great paper made into notebooks - everyone is a choice for one and not for all the others. And every time I am unable to withstand the temptation of getting more paper, that contradiction deepens. And sometimes it's not even getting more paper - it is also nice to make my own notebooks, even if they aren't as perfect as the store bought ones, I still like them and like to use them...

@mhguda I think it’s cool you make your own notebooks. Why care if it isn’t perfect?  It’s one of a kind!

True - and while not perfect (I am too impatient for that) I do make sure I have good, fp-friendly paper in them.

And making them, with the number of pages I feel like having, is also a very Zen exercise. Enjoyable.

Glad you liked it, mhguda.

And I agree with you on the matter of paper, temptation for more paper, and the background itch to find *just* the right paper with *just* the right features (ruling vs. blank vs. dot or grid) with *just* the right covers and storage options ....

It very quickly snowballs into something simply impossible! LOL!

My notebook unicorn is one that has an expandable storage pocket on the inside front and back covers, blank pages, multiple ribbon bookmarks, and a cover that is neither too stiff nor too flexible and is durable against scuffs and wet stuff. It has to have white paper--nothing colored or tinted to skew the color of my fountain pen ink. It has to have paper sturdy enough to take light watercolor washes and not have my writing ghost to the other side, yet not be so heavy that it isn't flexible.

And while I'm at it, I want it to smell like sakura blossoms or sandalwood. At least, please let it smell like the Hello Kitty store of my children's childhood. All three of us ***MISS*** that store SO MUCH.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
