Diamine 2017 Shimmer Citrus Ice

Hello Friends,

I have had the pleasure of reviewing Diamine's latest series of Shimmer inks, a set of 10 with 5x silver particled and 5x gold particled inks. I have tried out reviews in the Breeze Notebook containing Tomoe paper in contrast to using my trusted Black n Red Quad. The results are quite something, however, capturing them hasn't been easy. I look forward, as always to your thoughts and feedback. The set will be available in the next few weeks.

This was a lovely shading, but difficult ink to use for any prolonged period of time and I had to give up with it. I wish it was a darker shade of citrus that didn't hurt my eyes so much.

Might be okay for doing artwork. But for writing it's really a bit too light to be legible.

Thanks for the review, though.

ESSENTIAL UPDATE:

PLEASE SEE UPDATED IMAGE BELOW FOR A NEW SAMPLE. I am not sure what happened, and I can only apologise profusely, however I need to correct my initial review of this ink to state that it is in fact very legible and actually quite unique and a beautiful golden yellow/orange with amazing shading (think flames). I want to upload new images but not sure if I can do this on my phone right now. Nope. Up to the laptop I go..

Here we go:

Please also note 4 gold particled inks and 6 silver! The Citrus Ice threw me as you can tell!

Please see the updated picture. It is actually far more legible than I thought. I am stumped as to what on earth happened!

Probably dilution with water after a fresh pen cleaning? All of my inks start out pale after pen cleaning due to the feed still having water in it (despite my best attempts to use an absorbent paper towel around a nib).

Yeah, that's very different from the first images. So, the answer is "Yes, it's legible. But, no, it's still orange...." Looks kinda like someone added Lustre Dust to Noodler's Apache Sunset.

Thanks for the update.

It's ever so slightly darker, And infinitely well behaved! It dries for a start, which is very good in my books, literally.. 😂

I would be inclined to agree, although the feed had a long time to dry out. I'm just glad I spotted and corrected the issue in time.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
