Hard Carry Case/holder For 5-10 Standard International Cartridges?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I usually carry something like 5 spare cartridges in their orginal packaging in my backpack wherever I go. Problem is, after a while of being in there, the cardboard packaging more or less gets destroyed.

Does anyone know of a company that makes a hard carry case for international long (or short for that matter) cartridges? Has somebody thought of a clever solution to this?

I can't believe I would be the only one with this problem! :o

Thank you all very much in advance!

I would likely go shopping for breath mints (tins). Or if I would be really "pro", I would get a Thon cigarette case.

Kaweco Supra (titanium B), Al-Sport (steel BB).

Parker: Sonnet (dimonite); Frontier GT; 51 (gray); Vacumatic (amber).

Pelikan: m600 (BB); Rotring ArtPen (1,9mm); Rotring Rive; Cult Pens Mini (the original silver version), Waterman Carene (ultramarine F)

The plastic cannisters for 35mm film rolls do a good job. Visconti also sell their inks in a similarly sized hard plastic container.

It looks like the standard international cartridge is about 38.1 mm so I would suggest these:

Since a standard AAA battery is about 44mm then you should be able to carry 4 inks in these little battery boxes quite nicely.

My favorite solution is the breath mint tin, but J Herbin sells their cartridges in little metal containers, so if you like any of their standard colors that may be a good way to go. Pelikan Edelstein sells theirs already put in what look like mint boxes. I've never tried them, so I don't know how sturdy they are.

Altoids tins work for this.

The counter at Starbuck's sells a small tin of mints. The size is the same as the travel-size aspirin tin. Other metal containers come from Velmint and Altoid. For just a few uses, consider the plastic Tic-Tac mint box.

Pelikan Eldelstein (long) cartridge cases are metal that snap closed. Would do for any cartridge long or short. It's six cartridges wide.

With short cartridges I could see at least 8 in the case.

The Pelikan Edelstein metal box sounds like a great idea since I am using Pelikan 4001 long cartridges mostly. For shorts the Visconti thing is pretty cool. I will also have to try the Altoids tins if I can get my hands on one (I never see Altoids sold anywhere where I live and haven't found them online at reasonable price either).

I found these little pill boxes in a bargain bin at Target a while back. They're great for small things, and they'll fit a pile of the International Long carts. If you rock smaller cartridges, Children's Dramamine (motion sickness medicine) comes in these nifty little plastic boxes that fit Platinum, Pilot, Sailor, Sheaffer, and International Short cartridges.

I think Pelikan sells long cartridges in a little tin box.

Pelikan 4001 long cartridges come in simple paper boxes in my area.

As mentioned a bit above, the Edelstein line sold in metal boxes. Nice box for sure, brought one mainly for the box.
