Gfeller Hobo Cousin A5 Cover Fits Taroko Enigma Notebooks?

Greetings FPN Members!

I am in the market for a leather cover for my Taroko Enigma A5 notebook (148mm x 210mm x 18mm).

After reading the various reviews on FPN and NanamiPaper.com, I am eager to invest in a GFeller kip leather cover.

Would anyone have experience with / knowledge of the Gfeller Kip Hobonichi Cousin A5 cover (148mm x 210mm x 17mm) fitting the Taroko Enigma notebooks?

I have scoured the Internet but have been unable to find conclusive evidence of the same.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Pretty much up to you. Everything in your post is rather obscure. The Hobo has fans but, compared to other diaries, it’s a blip. Gfeller Casemakers’ notebook covers are superb but there are only a few of us users here—everyone else gets by with less expensive covers. And this engima thing? Soor, Never heard of it. I have Steve’s Hobonochi Techo cover (t’s exquisite) and I can tell you that if the enigma is EXACLTY the same dimensions of the Hobo you are referencing (exactly), it will fit fine. Steve’s templates and his construction techniques leave no room for error or for slop. His covers fit precisely.

Precisely.

You can always call but, seriously, Steve doesn’t have a sample of every weird notebook on the planet. You could send one to him and he might be able to test fit but don’t ask him to make a custom cover for you unless you want to wait a few months and are prepared to pay handsomely.

Full disclosure: I know Steve and I created some of their promotional and instructional video materials. I have no fiduciary relationship with Gfellers but I have absolutely no objectivity either. They make fabulous stuff and their merchandise is worth the wait and the price. If you’re not prepared to spend the money or to wait, don’t bother.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Not sure about fit but I am another huge Gfeller fan. I have 8 covers and love them all. They are my everyday use covers.

Hi delhirox

Quick question - is the A5 gfeller cover you refer to the same size as the one sold on the Nanimi Paper site? If so the Taroko A5 wont fit it - btw I thought the Taroko notebook was well known and in the wrid category at all.

Hope this helps from another forum member.

Greetings FPN Members!

Taroko Enigma A5 notebook (148mm x 210mm x 18mm).

Hobonichi Cousin A5 cover (148mm x 210mm x 17mm) fitting the Taroko Enigma notebooks?

delhirox

Probably not. That 1mm is huge for products from Gfellers. It would be uncomfortably tight, probably buckle something in an unpleasant way. Steve’s products are NOT one-size-fits-most. The fit is exact.

Thanks a lot for the response folks! Apologies I missed the responses due to notification settings.

I ended up ordering the Gfeller hobo A5 to go with my nanami seven seas journal. Taroko recently launched A5 leather covers, which I will use for the Taroko books.

Thanks once again for these helpful comments!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
