Lamy Dark Lilac (Le 2016)

I was not part of the craze in 2016 for this ink so I never raced after a bottle, and wasn't going to pay a premium price for one either. Sometime earlier this year someone sent me some samples, and one, was this ink. So it was nice to actually try it.

The only time prior that I had used a Lamy ink was a cartridge that came with a pen. Lamy Blue perhaps? It wasn't impressive. This ink is so far from Lamy cartridge ink I can understand what all the fuss was about. This ink was head and shoulders above standard Lamy ink. I don't have a purple/violet that matches this color so I can't offer a substitute.

The ink was in my Gate City Belmont for about three weeks, and no staining of the barrel was experienced. There is some shading on some papers, whereas on others it's a more one-dimensional color. There is gold sheen on Tomoe River paper.

I am glad to read your review of this ink & happy you have a sample of it. I was fortunate to purchase it when it was released & have enjoyed using it.

Hi Lotus. Wow! First time i’ve heard of another Gate City Belmont user. I love them so much, that I now have 5 of them. Great pens that don’t get enough Press. I missed out on the Lamy dark lilac ink, but so good to see it lives on in a Gate City Belmont.

Thanks for the post.

Yes BarkingPig it is a good ink. Glad you are able to enjoy it over time, having a bottle.

Thanks for the mention Old Salt! I have only two Belmonts, you are so lucky. These really are great pens, especially for those that love ink.

Good review, thanks!

What is it about this ink? I don't like purple, but I liked this color, it's saturation, behaves flawlessly.

In this past year it's competed as my most used along with Mont Blanc Toffee. Perennial favorite Aurora Black has slid into third place.

I don't think it's a surprise that other companies are featuring similar purple's since Lamy Dark Lilac.

It's a formula that should be revisited.

I missed this ink when it came out, but I paid a premium recently for a bottle, and I don't regret it, so pleasing on the eye.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
