Hi FPN,

I am trying to learn the history and information on this pen stamped Hosei. It is a Japanese eyedropper with sealing rod. The barrel is stamped: Hosei / Sanshin & Co.,PT / Tokyo. The nib is stamped: Special / Hosei / Ideal / JIS / 4366. The cap band is stamped: R14K.

 

I did not see Hosei under the topic: Pen Manufacturers - Current and Past, so does anyone know anything about this pen? Thanks in advance everyone.

looking into Sanshin & Co Pt. I'm led to believed that this is a "sub-brand" of a retail company so were looking into second tier or third tier pens

but I'm not too certain which Sanshin company is this (there's a Japanese water pump and filtration company, an electronics company, and producers of chucks) or it could be a defunct company with little unwritten history

Third tier early-mid 1950s pen maker. One of many.

Nib is by Hatanaka Kouseido, of the Hatanaka family. The produced nibs for the Venus brand of pens. Your pen could be one of their sub-brands. The nib is gold filled, literally just a wash.

Thanks for the info. The gold filled would explain the funny two tone color. I will also try to get this old pen writing again soon.

I have a very similar pen and looking for any information on how this filling or sealing system is supposed to work. Do you have any reference?

It is an eyedropper with shutoff plunger. You remove the scion and put ink into the barrel with an eyedropper. You unscrew the blind cap slightly when wanting to write. Screw it tight when finished.

 

You probably need o have the sea at the blind cap serviced to avoid ay leakage.

Understood. There is no serviceable access to the seal in the blind cap, in fact, I doubt that there is any seal at all. Something must be missing in the pen.

There is! You have to know how to access it.

Anyone who can do the seal on an Onoto can service the seal.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
