Congrats! The Dorsal Fin 2 and Moon Cat I find irresistible. Every time they come out, I fight the urge until they are quickly sold out, so I can save my wallet and keep my promise :D .

might as well jump in too,,,, even though I only have one Nakaya... but it is the most amazing pen. I didn't think anything would beat my M800s until this showed up.

Here is mine,

@Como, the Moon Cat is quite charming, and a lot less expensive than the dorsal fin, I was lucky that when I placed my order they found an extra pen, so instead of waiting for 7 to 9 months as told, I got my fountain pen in less than 50 days.

I find the Moon Cat image very peaceful. I hope that nibs.com never has one ready for sale in Portable Cigar shape :D. Enjoy your pen, so nice!

I looked at this one a lot during lockdown, very intriguing material. Do you like the texture? Beautiful pen, congratulations!

Just thought I'd leave this here... :D

this is a dangerous thread...

I tried to forget about it already in 2017...

as in terms of Nakayas I'm less than an absolute beginner...

i.e. zero Nakayas so far...

Not sure I'll be able to resist for long

A long sigar is already on my wish list...

I bought my first in 2014. Now I have about 100.

Posting a family photo here would be the equivalent of a megaton nuclear mic drop! Just sayin' :P

Vintage. Cursive italic. Iron gall.

rhk and Linger: Thank you for sharing photos of your beautiful Tamenuris. Congratulations!

Linger: Is the last one a 17mm Portable? I bought a long cigar and it doesn't fit in my Visconti 12-pen case, so it's always outside! But the section is very comfortable. The 17mm looks really nice, girthy kind of like MB 149.

Three aka tamenuri Nakaya’s, I have some more.

Please show the others as well Ruud!

With one on order (eta spring 2021) I currently have three: aka, heki, and toki:

Yes the last one is the 17mm portable. I actually like both, even though they have very different sections. The section of the long cigar to me seems super comfortable, but the overall size of the pen a bit too unpractical for the reason you mention.

Very high on my wish list is a Dorsal Fin, and I am not sure if the same not applies for that sword too...

Thought it might be worth asking here, anyone got a picture of the naka-ai and the long piccolo side by side? capped and uncapped?

@Linger: The addition of Shu made your harmonious Nakaya family photo brighter too! Congratulations! A beautiful selection.

@Linger: Would you mind me asking what pen tray is this please? I have the same problem with Visconti 12-pen case, since I bought my Nakaya Long Cigar. Thank you.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
