It has some sheen, i would call it green, but it is only when a LOT of ink is used like in the splash and 3x swab

I like Syrah a lot! Ink colour and wine :)

Thanks for reminding me to ink a pen - I recall it a bit less pink.

The remark on sheen... deserves a check with music nib :)

Great splash!!!

Side note: the ink has a bit of a bad (mushy) smell, related to one component in the formulation (according to few members who checked with Diamine), and it doesn't impact the quality.

My Christmas ink! I use it every year for Christmas cards, gift tags etc. Rich, juicy and festive.

It's beautiful and is now on my list of inks to try out.

For those who liked this one I thought KWZ Brown pink and MB exupery were similar, like different shades of a color family. All nice inks.

@ Mulrich:

I am working through my inks and started with the reds, but I also have the KWZ Ink Brown Pink, so i thought lets do that one right away:

You're KWZ Brown Pink looks a bit darker than what I experienced, and your Syrah a bit lighter. I need to figure out the best way to scan/picture ink so I can start sharing my various swatches and writing samples.

Scan is done with Epson V850

Monitor and scanner are calibrated.

And also to "the eye" the scans are accurate.

Looking forward to your swatches, pen and paper can have a big influence.

  • 1 year later...

I have a 30ml bottle of this on order with a few others, so am doing some review-browsing while I await its arrival.

On my phone, the Syrah is rendering as almost cranberry red. I wonder if thats accurate. If so I kind of like itnot so bloody, and serious, eye-catching but not frivolous.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
