Palladian Nibmeister Suggestions

Does anyone have any suggestions for a Nibmeister who works on Palladian nibs? I put a Palladian nib too far into an ink bottle. As a result, the tip is not what it should look like. I can't seem to find a Nibmeister who works on Palladian nibs. Also, can't seem to find one whose time frame does not take me into the latter part of next year. Much appreciated if you could give me some ideas. aesthetically restoring the nib to what it resembled before is what I am seeking.

I am not familiar with a Palladian nib but most nib mechanics do not specialize down to the level of a specific nib.

If possible put up a picture, the nature of damage may eliminate some repair options.

I modified this request and added photographs. The one with the spot on it is simply ink. The ink being used is very wet and it is why it appears on the nib.

I am asking because I do not know. I contacted Pendleton and he said he does not work on Palladian nibs only gold or steel. Thank you for letting me know, I simply went by his response and assumed I should be more specific in order to know exactly whether the Nibmeister will even touch the nib and not have me send the pen to find out they do not touch palladian nibs at all. It would be therefore a waste.

Palladium nibs perhaps. Not really much different than working gold. Doesn't look to bad. I'm guessing the nib is in service at Fort Bragg?

Fort Bragg. No, former military. It is happily enjoying itself being used near the base at times. Once military, always military though.

Dipped the nib too far down into a bottle of ink. First time dealing with a piston filler which you have to push the plunger down in order to fill. I am used to Pelikans where you have to dip the pen and twist in order to fill the piston. Well, this is what happened to this nib. I believe it is supposed to be able to splay (tines) in order for line variation. It does not since I had a difficult time restoring the tines to what you see here in order for the nib to write.Tried the best I could, but the dimple in the nib at the tip, I am nowhere near experienced to even tinker with it and once I got it to this point you see in the photographs, I decided to leave alone. It now does write, it writes a bit like a Japanese or European extra-fine point. I just know that it does not look like it is supposed to look.

I haven't used them myself (yet). Am considering it though as I did something similar to what you did - with the same nib... :(

Thanks for your suggestion. However, I live in the same state as them. I purchased the pen from a fellow Fountainpennetwork member. As a result, ColesofLondon not an option unless I want to purchase a new nib and this is a new nib purchased to replace another nib which was altered and I was unable to use.

I don't comprehend. Nothing I found indicates that they only do warranty work. As far as I can tell, you send them the pen, if they can fix it, they do. If they can't, they ship it to Italy and they fix it (possibly at an extra charge). What am I missing?

Coles does non-warranty work too. sometimes they have to send it back to italy. if I remember, a new nib would only set you back $60-100, less than some repairwork.

I was quoted a repair of $35 for my out of warranty nib that wrote with horrible baby's bottom by Coles.

Also, Greg Minuskin will take on palladium nibs. His prices are relatively steep but his work is peerless.

Thank you so much for the information. I'll call Coles again and see whether they will be able to do anything. Funny, they are how this entire saga with this fountain pen began. I'll look up Greg Minuskin also. Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

If you end up going with Coles, please let us know how that turns out - as I said, I've got the same problem and am considering them.

Actually, please let us know how it goes either way. :) (I know it may be a long time before you have results to report back on.)

I certainly will report back. Greg Muniskin, hope I am spelling his name correctly, does not work on Palladian nibs, or silver nibs only gold. I just got an email back from him. I took pictures of the nib so I am able to send pictures of the nib to be specific about what I need to be done. I am going to call Coles of London on Monday. The saga of the dimpled nib continues.....

My personal experience with coles has been great. Erin is very willing to explain every part of what needs doing and what it'll cost, if a nibmeister will be less expensive (including a recommendation for who they like) and they really do respect you as a customer.

Thanks, Honeybadgers! That's very reassuring. I'm planning to wait until September before contacting them.

Thank you. I will call them again on Monday. Wicked sense of humor, I believe this is reinforcing in me at this point. This all started because I purchased a Visconti with a needlepoint nib. I thought prior to purchasing it just meant (Japanese regrind) it was a better version of an extra-fine point. I called ColesofLondon and the two times, I was quoted two different prices for a replacement Palladian nib. Not to mention, I was confused about their fees for service. Also, since it was purchased from another FPN member I have no receipt. In any case, I will call them again Monday and thanks for the specific person's name I need to ask for when I do. Now, I have a nib, it just has a slight over bite on its tip. I know it should not bother me if it writes. I don't know why it continues to be an issue. Thanks again. I will update.

Apologies, inconsistant internet. Causes a freeze and duplication at times.

Also contact John Mottishaw at www.nibs.com

He most probably works on the kind of nib that you need fixed. Also email the folks at Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC. They might give you info on who you might send your nib to for repair.

Best of luck.

Apologies if I seem to be unclear. I believe the information regarding warranty is actually on their website under repair. I think I read that you should submit the receipt of purchase along with your pen when seeking repairs. Apparently, depending on what version of the Visconti, it may have a two year warranty, or another time frame. I purchased the pen from a FPN Member located in Italy so of course I don't have a receipt, unless a Paypal statement mention counts. You may be right in your idea. I am going to call again on Monday and actually get it clarified. I simply need a slight hump removed from the tip of my Palladian nib. It is to me also seeming as if something which should easily be repaired as long as it is a Visconti. I believe my Pelikan and my Franklin-Christophe do not require proof of purchase. I'll update.

I'm still a bit confused on exactly what Palladian nib is. I can make out 23 carat markings. Is Palladian a trade name indicating the nmaterial is palladium?

I wonder if refusal to work on said nib is due to unknowns and not that the nib can not be fixed.

I would first ask what a replacement nib costs. I doubt the manufacturer would straighten the nib but more likely they would just replace it.

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
