Hello from Toronto Canada...I have been a member of FPN for awhile now...but I have not logged on for many years...so lets say Im new to many of you. I, personally am not a fountain pen collector, but my late brother-in-law was, and I quite often purchased and sold items for him on eBay and I'm pretty sure both him and I sold some items on FPN. He passed away a while back and I was nominated by the family to sell off some of his collectibles that he had. One of his close friends who lives overseas told me to check with FPN to sell some of his pens or to get information on any pen that I might have questions about. So here I am ...I will be posting questions about any items in the proper catagory, and items that I am selling for his estate will be either in classifieds or where ever else I think they will get good exposure (ebay-???). keep your eyes open for a BRAND NEW IN THE BOX WATERMAN EDSON DIAMOND BLACK PT FOUNTAIN PEN WITH MED POINT NIB IN THE CLASSIFIEDS, and a question I have about a |Mont Blanc pen.post-138308-0-26443800-1502394991.jpg

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Hello !

Losing a family member is hard. I wish circumstances of this "reunion" were different.

It could have taken years to liquidate the estate of parents, trying to maximize the proceeds of each item. However, my family was fortunate. Nobody NEEDED the money. Nobody was making plans for the money. Nobody argued over a coin collection, or the exact one-third of $115,957 ! We were able to liquidate quickly and close out the material part of their lives.

However, sorting through all the "stuff" gives precious closure.

I pray you the same good fortune.

Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Welcome!

Sorry about your loss, I'm sure the optimal area of FPN will be found for you by mods.

Enjoy the people who for some reason send off a form posting when someone joins the board!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
