Reasonable Price?

That reminds me, if anyone fancies a non-retracting Boheme with MB leather pouch, there's one on eBay AU currently sitting at $AU46... low start price because seller wasn't sure it was genuine.

Well? Is it authentic?

I don't know enough to be able to tell. The converter is definitely fake though. People are bidding, so maybe it is or they're prepared to take the risk.

Or they don't care.

Non-retracting Bohemes with converters are always fakes if they are the small size that should always be retractable

You're very kind Tom :)

I've been enjoying your OBBB thread very much. I'm not convinced that I'll ever want to use a nib bigger than OB or B, but its great seeing all your amazing pictures and handwriting!

From what I was reading last night I'm guessing that the nib also screams fake.

I've also seen another Boheme that is raising questions for me because the box has a black star on it instead of white...

The "Iridium Point Germany" stamped on the nib of the first pen is a dead giveaway. I would report the item and let the seller know (they claim not to know if it's genuine or not - might be an out for them or maybe they really don't know) lest someone get taken. I would do so however my US Ebay login doesn't work for the AU site.

I've contacted the seller to let them know - I will wait and see whether they decide to do the right thing before I think about reporting it to eBay.

Well, I tried bidding on a 146R (M nib) on eBay the other day. When I put my bid in it was sitting at US$300; by the time the auction closed it was up to US483. I've taken this as a Sign and have emailed the seller of the Boheme with OB nib. Waiting on a response...

Don't wait. It takes days for eBay to even think about doing something. If it's only listed for a week you will be too late. -_-

Ah, I wasn't aware (I've never used eBay much before.) there's only 6 hours left. The seller has replied to me, says he can't amend the description because bids have been placed, and basically "buyer beware." If the pen works ok then the "lucky" winner may not care very much...

Dilemma! Do I get this Boheme shipped insured (in which case the value has to be declared and I get hit with $150 in import duties) or uninsured, take the risk and maybe save $150? Decisions decisions...

I use the mail and avoid messenger services that add a brokerage fee.

Here anything, be it new or 2nd hand, over the $400 limit (INCLUDING the cost of shipping, which I find particularly annoying) attracts Customs duties, even if it comes by post. The value of the goods has to be declared on the customs sticker/paperwork. Anything over $1000 requires an importer number and that's where import services and brokerage fees come in. NZ Customs are VERY diligent about checking packages, and I've never had anything with a declared value of $400+ that escaped duties. Luckily they don't go so far as to open parcels and check stated value against actual value. Thus my Rouge et Noir was able to escape duties, and I've elected to take the risk with the Boheme.

I think Customs here is so onto it because of the bio security risk to our unique wildlife and farms. And fair enough. But the $400 limit is just miserly. I believe in Australia it's $1000. At any rate, I've paid the import duties enough times that I don't feel guilty about skipping them occasionally.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
