Week #26 / 25 Jun: Elements In Ink - 2017 Weekly Ink Project

Recommended Posts

Choose an ink that represents an element in the periodic table. (Thank you migo984 for the idea!)

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

Brilliant choice!

I'm going to have to read up on my elements. Science was never my strongest subject... ;)

I'll be claiming iron - element nr 26, for the number of the week. Represented, of course, by an iron-gall ink. The beauty of that is I can use a ton of different IG inks... they will all be representative of Fe. Will upload my picture later today.

I had two ideas, and I'm glad that mhguda got the IRON that I was thinking about (I would have gone with that what happens when iron oxidizes —RUST), but I'll go with my original idea of...

I'm sorry.

This one is lost on me.

I haven't a clue what the topic is about. :D

Is it "actual" elements that are in the ink (if so, how do you know?) or is it elements in the name? Or elements that the ink remind you of?

Please excuse my confusion, I was expecting posts with silver ink, or Carbon black and the likes. :D

I'd say any or all of the above - either it reminds you of the element, or you know the element is part of what gives the ink its color, or you guess, or you free-associate... in my case, I loved it that the number of the week equals the number of the element.

Your Rouge Hematite looks nothing like mine! A lovely ink color.....without the BURN. Kids today have no idea how lucky they are.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Ok, here's my take.

I'm gutted.

In the light of day, the whole page is a sparklefest, but it just won't show up on the scan at all.

Oh well! Should have took a photie.

Nice one Ian! And I agree with the judges! I hated Red Lustre the moment I put it on paper. Horrible colour. It's not red. It's a dirty brownish pink.

Yip, I agree.

I love reds but this isn't one.

The gold sparkles make it look like a washed out browny orange.

It needed to be cherry red, or snooker ball red to work, I think.

I don't use it much, but I use the blue Pearl daily in my bci Churchmans Prescriptor.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
