Graf von Faber-Castell was founded in 1761 and developed into the major manufacturer of wood-cased pencils. With time they started to offer much broader range of products. Few years ago company's introduced six inks. Recently they've added three new colors to the line.

  1. Carbon Black
  2. Cobalt Blue
  3. Deep Sea Green
  4. Garnet Red
  5. Hazelnut Brown
  6. Midnight Blue
  7. Moss Green
  8. Royal Blue
  9. Stone Grey

Stone Grey is one of best grey inks on the market. It behaves well on most papers, has nice flow and nice lubrication. It's saturated enough to remain legible on most papers, even when used in EF nibs. Also it offers some reasonable water resistance. I still haven't fount my grail grey but this one is close. It it would have Stone Grey properites and Cda's Infinite Grey Hue it would be it.

Thanks for reviewing this ink; I have had it for awhile & now remember I liked it, why I quit using it the last few years is a mystery. I may have to clean a pen & give it a whirl. I think a nice cool gray ink might be nice in this unseasonably hot spell.

It looks almost brownish. Is that just me? I mean, I guess stones can be a brownish-grey, but brown is not usually an undertone I want in my greys.

This is my favorite gray ink! I want Noodler's Lexington Gray to be my favorite, cos it's bulletproof, but no. And I LOVE Maruzen Hatobanezu! I also love another unobtainium ink that Ricky (Altec Green) gave me a sample of a few years back that I used up back up). But F-C Stone Grey is my favorite.

Super, SUPER weird, but that color just gave me a vivid flashback to Nazi propaganda posters.

*I in no way endorse or imply that this ink has anything to do with Nazis, and might actually buy a bottle of this since I like sepia-toned greys.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

Ouf! Honeybadgers, this is hard stuff! ... But this grey seems very strong. Up till now I would not have expected to call a gray ink strong - maybe because all the grey ink I have is soft: Gris nuage, Gris orage, Do-you, Fuyu-Syogun, and Chu-Sho. Indeed very interesting and it makes a strong impression on me. Thank you for your powerful review.
