hello everyone im a newbie in the fountain pen world

i bought a montblanc 149 from a local second hand network and after a few days of thorough research

i realized that there is something sketchy about this pen

according to the chart here https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/170282-dating-montblanc-149s/

it seems like it was assembled with parts from different periods

the nib is two toned 18k

the feed is split ebonite

the filler thread is plastic

theres only one umlaut in meisterstuck

and theres no serial number plus the GERMANY font looks different from the other 149s

According to my knowledge, this is probably a Montblanc from the late 80's, it is original. I think that they changed the nib design (which is the yellow, platinum, yellow gold in the nib) in the 90's probably.... not sure. Waiting for an especialist's comments.

Yes, late 1980s, before they went to brass threads for the piston cone. The pen is authentic.

Did you use a loop for those closeup photos? Very creative. Really shows the details of the pen. I will have to try that next time.

Regarding your pen, it does look late 80s. Perhaps it was sent into Montblanc for a new nib sometime in the last 20 years. Either way, looks like a great pen to have. Congratulations on the new acquisition. Welcome to the forum

You have a genuine Montblanc there. Sometimes I think we create doubt by the way we pick pens apart. But, there are also a lot of shady sellers out there trying to pass off Frankenblancs.

It's good that you wrote to us, I'm glad you feel better about your purchase now.

I hope it's giving you plenty of enjoyable writing. You should put up a writing sample.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
