I'm So Glad I Found You Guys

I'm so grateful I found this organization!!

I've been a fountain pen user for many years now. I have long preferred the Lamy pens as they write smoothly and the metal caps keep the pens from drying out. I recently received a cross century classic and really love the slimness of it. I have used dip pens as well as cartridge pens.

Nice to meet everyone.

Stef from PA

Stef,

Hello from East Texas.

Welcome to the FPN.

I have several Lamys: a 2k with a medium nib, a red Studio & a blue Studio both with fine nibs & 3 Al-Stars with 6 assorted size nibs. I have other brands that I adore, also.

Do you have a favorite paper or ink?

Feel free to share any knowledge or information you have. And don't hesitate to ask questions, there will be folks around here that can help. This is a very friendly community.

Welcome, Stef !

Of my LAMY pens, I best like the LAMY 2000. It is the smoothest writer. Do you have one ?

Greetings and welcome!

:W2FPN:

...The history, culture and sophistication; the rich, aesthetic beauty; the indulgent, ritualistic sensations of unscrewing the cap and filling from a bottle of ink; the ambient scratch of the ink-stained nib on fine paper; A noble instrument, descendant from a line of ever-refined tools, and the luster of writing,
with a charge from over several millennia of continuing the art of recording man's life.

Greetings from Pittsburgh! :W2FPN: What part of the Commonwealth are you from?

I generally suggest that new people click on the "View New Content" button when they log in, in order to get a good overview of a range of different topics. And, if ink is your thing, to have a look at the pinned Index to the Ink Reviews Forum.

But you should know that we are all evil enablers, who will happily help you spend your discretionary funds on pens, inks, paper, tools, ephemera, wax seals....

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
