Not a color for me, but thanks for the review.

Thank you for a wonderful review of one of the most exciting inks I have received this year!

I am not a fan of most red inks & have only recently started exploring them. When I received this bottle, I removed the silly Sailor insert & dropped it on the open Tomor River pad & let it settle while I filled my pen. The resulting spread was one of the most intense shadings I have ever seen; the gold appeared almost greenish cast from that big pool of ink! It was a pleasure in an old soft Broad nibbed Conway Stewart & really showed it's shading & sheen.

This is the first red ink that I have understood what all the "fuss" was about. It is hard to think about the cost of the ink, just thinking about what a pleasure awaits your next fill. I thank the person who introduced me to this ink on FPN & Vanness for making it possible to obtain here, without fuss or bother. I have purchased, received & used a lot of pens, that gave me no more joy than this ink.

I am a lover of Reds... and this one is at the top of my list with Maruzen Akane. Sailor do know how to make gorgeous reds...

I quite like it as well. Is it new? I haven't noticed this one before.

I think it's fairly new. I'm not certain, but I think it was made to coincide with NHK's 2017 Taiga drama about Ii Naotora. I don't have a source for this, but it seems pretty coincidental.

How close is this to Oku-Yama or Grenade? Some of the images remind me distinctly of the latter!

In my experience it is not at all like Oku Yama. Ink of Naotora has a more 'blood' like colour to it, with a degree of orangeness to it.

I don't have either of those, so I can't say. Sorry.

I have used 1 pen full of this ink. I loved it but a friend of mine looked at my ink journal & didn't like it. Thank goodness there are enough different colors to satisfy almost everyone.

It seems to remind me of oku-yama...

Do you have a in person comparison for both inks available?

I'm going to the Atlanta show this weekend. If I see any oku-yama samples, I'll try to get a comparison.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
