I have good news for you my friend. I believe you can find KWZi in China (or maybe is Japan)... I just saw it in an asian publication (apologies that I cannot remember which country)... Let me find the link.

KWZi IG's are the wettest Iron Galls you can find. In terms of Iron Galls... they have nice lubrication and in general I would not consider them dry. That is one of the beauties of KWZi.

Just an update on this.... I just discovered that all the KWZ inks (including the IGs :puddle: :puddle: :puddle: ) are available on Taobao!

Both 5ml samples and full bottles are available.

Now, which KWZ IG was it that turns a decent burgundy after curing, Red or Red #3??

Hello TruthPil,

You might also want to consider R&K Scabiosa. A disgusting name, but a nice IG burgundy.

Thanks for the reminder about Scabiosa. It's been on my radar a few times, but didn't seem as saturated or as water resistant as I'd like for this color. The price is right and I really enjoy my R&K Sepia, so I may get it anyway.

A little update on my quest for a truly waterproof burgundy:

- Platinum Classic (IG) Cassis is a great ink I enjoy very much, but even after the IG oxidizes it's too light to be called burgundy. It's also not completely waterproof because a decent amount of pink will wash off when wet.

- R & K Scabiosa is pretty much waterproof (almost no smearing when wet after fully dry), but to my eyes is more of a dusty light purple (?) than a burgundy. Little to no red tint.

- KWZI IG Red #1 oxidizes to a perfect deep burgundy color (not mention having a lovely sweet smell), but the red die will wash out if it gets wet, as with the Platinum IG.

To sum up, a completely waterproof burgundy ink doesn't exist to my knowledge. I'm sure one could be made my mixing, but that's too much trial and error work for my taste. I hope someday it will exist, but KWZI IG Red #1 is so beautiful and fun to use that I'll just have to be content with it for the time being. :)

I doubt it is waterproof (and I haven't tested it), but Diamine Merlot is a lovely color.

Just another follow up on my quest for a truly waterproof burgundy ink...

As far as I know, still no truly waterproof burgundy exists, but the recently released Rohrer and Klingner SketchInk Jule is a dusty, somewhat chalky burgundy that leans a little to the brown side of the spectrum. Unless you've got a firehose writer, on absorbent paper it's chalky but on non-absorbent paper it can give some decent shading. The best part is that it's 100% waterproof, like any of the R&K or De Atramentis Document inks. It also bleeds and feathers less than the worst of those.

So far R&K Jule is the closest I've come to a waterproof burgundy...but the search for something more saturated continues...

Thanks for reminding me, Amber!

I still have a few days left of summer break, so it sounds like a good thing to do soon.

Do you have any recommended or favorite ratio of Ghost Blue to whatever ink for creating some waterproofness without diluting the color?

I'll try it first with Diamine Syrah.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
