I am seeking information on this unusual, modern looking, blue marble Safety Swan Pen with a gold-tone patterned cap. Can anyone tell me the type of ink reservoir or cartridges needed?post-33090-0-90485500-1490111765_thumb.jpegpost-33090-0-13211000-1490111714_thumb.jpeg.

"SWAN" SAFETY PEN,

Mabie Todd & Co. Ltd

Trade Mark Made in England

NIB markings:

SWAN 1 K 14C-585 Mabie Todd & Co.

A Swan safety pen is filled with an eyedropper. Unscrew the section as per your picture and fill the barrel.

Can you show a picture of the barrel imprint?

Is there a Swan imprint on the feed or on the section as well?

Any numbers on t he barrel anywhere?

There are no imprints on the feed or section & there are no numbers at all on the barrel. I have attached another photo to my original ad as I have not been able to add a photo in my reply to you. Thanks for your interest.

The gold tone Cap has a Swan emblem on the Clip but no other imprints. It is almost identical to the Cap on the Biro Magnum.

Yes, Swan did produce some pens with this cap; I had a 3260 with the golden cap and I did once bid on a safety pen like yours. Safety pens were often produced (MacNiven & Cameron were well-known for this) for use in the colonies where rubber sacs were apt to be very short lived.

Interesting, thank you. On checking through some MTC bits & pieces I have found another, similar not the same,

lined-gold tone cap.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..
