No mention of or picture showing it comes with a converter.

Well, there's this:

[Way] spiral ink absorbing ink absorber draw ink

Sounds like a converter to me. Seems like they basically consider it part of the pen.

(besides, Jinhao converters are dirt cheap, so it would still be a pretty sweet deal)

Scroll-down to the description and you will find mention of a spiral ink absorber that is often referred to as a converter.

Thanks for that. Missed it completely. :wallbash:

Edit - ordered 2, 1 from "insteaddo" and 1 from "insteadnow". However, the vendor confirmation email for each was from the same person.

In the past, I've purchased one of these $0.99 "x450s" and it wasn't actually an x450. The cap ring had no markings where an x450 normally says "Jinhao" and "X450". Similarly, the nib says "Iridium Point Germany". More interestingly, the converter it came wasn't standard international and as such, would not fit into any of my x450s.

The section is less indented than the normal x450 and the caps are not interchangeable. The barrels are interchangeable. The feeds were designed differently, I did not check if they were interchangeable.

The first time I used it I put a standard international cartridge in the pen (and it looked like it fit), but the pen ended up leaking. This is when I decided to try the converter in other pens. Additionally, the converter it came with wasn't flush with the sides of the pen and had some "wiggle". I benched it after the leaking incident, but am now considering trying it.

Does anyone else have any experience with a $.99 "x450"? Was it branded? Did it have the same peculiarities that mine did?

Edit: I forgot to mention that in the photos of the pen I ordered, it did not say it was an x450 and no where in the ad did it, unlike in this posting.

One of mine X450's also doesn't have any markings on the ring, but apart from that it's identical with the other. It says Jinhao on the converter, an identical one as in my other Jinhaos. I suppose for products this cheap it's quite common that there are minor differences between them, there's no QC to prevent that. Mine however was $2,5, not 0,99.

I had last year purchased about 15 or so of these $.99 Jinhao X450 pens .All were marked Jinhoa X450 and indistinguishable from X450s purchased in prior years at 4X the price.

Many on this sub-forum also purchased these $.99 pens last year and there was not a single posting indicating anything less than complete satisfaction.

It seems that there is lacking on this sub-forum memory of past postings. It would seem that very few remain active for an extended periods and their departure leaves us bereft of knowledge gained from their experience. .

Thanks for the heads up, k3eax - just for once it's not a US-only offer, so I have taken advantage.

Just bought one too. How can they sell a fountain pen for only 99 cents AND include free (and tracked) shipping?

It must be nice to shop in a place where Jinhaos don't cost 15$ roughly.

Yep, everything in Korea is pricey.

The person who bought me mine paid £2.41. He's been done.

My debt he paid, my death he died, that I might live.

Don't think in terms of "western capitalism" when buying from PRC. Think of the sellers as "agents" of the Chinese government. Governments do not necessarily have a "profit" motive. PRC seeks to amass foreign currency, to use in international trade. This is neither illegal, nor unethical. Someone wants one US dollar more than a Jinhao x450 pen. In addition, they also gain a buyer on the customer list.

By the way, limit of ONE per customer may include the one you bought six months ago.

Sasha, as recall last year when I made $.99 X450 purchases from two different vendors, reorders were permitted after a ten day waiting period

Thanks, k3eax. At 99¢, I'll fill it with some nice ink color and give it to the next person who expresses an interest in fountain pens!
