Diamine Eclipse

An FPN inky friend sent me some inks, and this one, Diamine Eclipse, was one. As you may know Diamine has been around since the 1860s, and has a large range of inks, solid reputation, favorable prices, and ready availability through out the US, EU. Perhaps even the major markets in Asia as well.

The handling for this ink was really excellent, not too wet, not too dry, very good flow. There seems to be some divergence of opinion as to the actual color of this ink amongst the various vendor web sites; one calling it purple, another saying blue-black leaning to black. In the converter it has a violet cast, but the writing appears as black, or, perhaps to some, dark grey. It's not really a grey ink, but depending on the pen and paper your may not get as dark a line. I didn't have this problem.

I did have some show through and a bit of bleed through on the cheaper inkjet paper. Whether that's acceptable to you depends on what paper you have and how it responds to this ink.

Diamine Eclipse is not water resistant, but a decent amount of ink stays behind when blotted, and when washed with water. So there is a sliver of hope for recovery of your writing.

Overall a very well behaved ink. If you don't want to use a boring black at work or school, you can get away with using this ink.

It's versatile, economical, well-behaved. Two inks for the price of one. With some pens it might as well be black; with others, a dark-dark blue. Sometimes it's both in the same writing, depending on the light. Dries quickly. A nice surprise.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Thanks for the review. I have all these samples I want to try and forget some of the great inks I already have, like Eclipse.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Yes, I may check this one out. And thank you.

For the #50shadesofbluechallenge (link to the hashtag on Instagram), a challenge over at the German PenExchange forum for July & August 2020, I inked up all my pens with all the 50+ blue inks I have. *** I cannot recall why I had thought of Diamine Eclipse as a blue ink since it is a very purple blue black if anything, but well, here it is ...

This ink continues to please me in the Sailor 1911s (Profit Standard) with a 14k DIY Italic Medium. Eclipse is a rather dense ink, deep and dark, but it is growing on me.

So, even accidentally revisiting inks in your stash might result in some pleasing experiences! :)

Eclipse is the ink in my Sailor 14k and Platinum 3776ef and sf. These pens, unadjusted, bring out the purplish tones in this ink in an excellent manner, quite unfailingly.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
