I'm not saying that London is always grey but filling a pen with Callifolio Gris De Payne when I'm heading into town for fun allows a sketch to be either bright or gloomy whilst using the same colour.

(thanks again migo984)

Pen: Parker 45 F nib.

Paper: Cass Art 300gsm Watercolour

Entrance to 203 Eversholt Street, London

(I don't live there though)

Oh wow! This sketch is perfect! I went and looked it up too! I think I might also be interested in your sketches! Do you Instagram? Do you sell your prints?

That's very kind of you to say.

Inkantadora, I don't Instagram  I don't really get it and leave that to my children. Perhaps I should look into it

I've never sold a sketch, I mostly throw them away (I know) or give them away - a few "special" ones stay in a pile on top of some books for me to reflect over every now and then.

I was however fortunate enough to be commissioned by an FPN member (THANK YOU) to draw a selection of London scenes a couple of years ago and treated myself to one of my favourite pens, an Edison Husdon EF with the spoils - my sketching, like most things in my life, has improved a lot since then and I sometimes wonder how I would approach that commission were it given to me now . . . Tas, you really should sell your sketches. They are amazing.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

You should also check out the 366+ inks thread, I've been posting up your sketches.

Thank you for sending over the CRVs and for all your work in scanning them so accurately. :notworthy1:

One can't help but agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment!

(I am also a huge fan of your faux DeFoe mix, with which a pen is always inked up!)

You caught the glitter so nicely in the picture! I now need this ink!

Oh Stormy Grey is something special. I bought a full bottle of it without trying a sample first, based solely on an written exemplar I saw at DCSS the summer it came out.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

  • 3 weeks later...

A little late to this party, but what the heck, I'll play...

I currently live in a city known for its conservatism and resistance to change. Only just lately, it has begun to join the 20th century. [Not a typo; the city and state pride themselves on their backwardness...]

So the ink I've chosen is KWZ Iron-Gall Gold, on parchment paper, with an old-fashioned italic dip nib. No new-fangled modern conveniences like fountain pens. That would be too progressive! ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
