Well, Liz, if you are into murky greens, may I suggest an overripe Cherry? I can send you some.

I'm into pretty much any color - any more, I'm finding that I like *trying* whatever color is out there, as the different behaviors - shading especially, but also sheen, and the way it feels when writing, or watching a wet ink dry, is just as interesting as the end product. (It's possible I have a slight problem. :lticaptd: )

So, if you feel like off-loading some pre-oxidized Cherry, I'll be happy to receive - thank you!

When you see how it shades and you will love it. Oh and watching it dry is actually fun.

And so far, no problem.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

:) Glad my letter arrived. I have no IG inks, so I'm waiting for another week to start up again. Yes, your "Cherry" is a bit "over-ripe". :D

I'm in the same boat. That KWZ #6 looks pretty though. What's everyone's draw to IG inks? I not tht familiar with them or why they're popular.

If I had legible handwriting, you would know from my post above yours that I like iron gall inks because they're waterproof (or in the case of the KWZ iron galls I have, partly waterproof). :) Others enjoy the color change as they oxidize on the paper, and/or that iron gall ink is a very old type of ink.

Ada has it spot on there, they are exactly my reasons for being interested in them.

I find the two R&K IG inks pretty good on the waterproofness, but a little dry to write with. I forgive Scabiosa though because I just love it. I wish the KWZ ones didn't run so much - does anyone know of ones that do this the least? I use a waterproof ink at work, and like Ada, value ones that don't run at all.

Minor misunderstanding I think... I love the wetness of the writing experience, flow-wise, and I'm guessing it's the higher amount of standard dye stuff that causes that, but it is that dye element which runs if the paper gets wet (and leaves only the IG-ish bit behind). I am really not very good at trying to clarify this.

Oh I see. I thought by running you meant the ink flow, but you meant the dye not being water resistant. LOL Well I think that's the nature of iron galls. They are brownish black, so the colourful ones are colourful because of other dyes that are not water resistant in themselves. I'd suggest looking into more traditional iron gall colours from KWZI, like the blue black.

Running behind this week. Didn't get the scanning done until just before dinner, and then had to run off to choir rehearsal.

I'm a big fan of iron gall inks, so I used several different ones last week, including one that -- in retrospect -- probably WASN'T an IG ink (I think I grabbed the wrong bottle by mistake... :(). Ah, well such is life....

I could have, in theory, used EVERY IG ink I own. But I already have too many pens in rotation at the moment.

It is on some paper. On other paper, it oxidizes a lot more, almost to the level of a teal-ish green, but not as dark as KWZI IG Turquoise (more like Edelstein Aquamarine in color). I was actually surprised at how little color change I got on that Pelikan paper, especially compared to how much Akkerman #10 and KWZI IG Violet #3 oxidized.

A couple of years ago, someone added vinegar to some of their Turkish Night and it kept the lovely cyan color a lot longer (not sure if it eventually changed and I don't know if that person is still around. But it made me want to get a backup bottle of Turkish Night. Only Nelson had all sorts of technical issues, followed by a family crisis, followed by too much crazy traveling for his job, and I don't know if he's back to ink brewing again. I keep hoping because I would *also* like to get a full bottle of Urkundentinte (his original blue-black IG ink), and the one that went from orange to brown, and *his* IG purple. And maybe even the reformulated IG red (he didn't like the result but people whined at him) and the reformulated IG sepia (he wanted to tweak the formula to make it less green-tinged).

Hey Noihvo. Slightly off topic, but was that a TWSBI 580 AL? If so, how do you find the metal grip section? I have been drooling over the AL, but am a bit hesitant to invest in a metal grip without tying it first (and have no way to do so sadly).

Thanks for that, I hadn't seen the loaner programs! Anyway, on the basis that it's not as bad as chrome, and that I just love the look of it: I took the plunge and bought it anyway. Of course, I added a few ink samples to the order... :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
