Hello all,

I would like to ask to give me some honest feedback on my penmanship.

I started exercising 3 weeks ago with Michael Sull book, American Cursive.

Thank you

I think that it looks great, easy to read, and again, looks just great. I just started re-learning, after a 32 year gap. As with you, it is fast becoming an obsession. I have also kind of started a journal, which appears to be a lot of fun.

Very nice. It shows good regularity, is pleasing on the eye and easy to read.

I couldn't agree more. Consistency of size shape/formation and spacing is the thing a struggle with the most. Your handwriting looks great to me. Not that I am an expert! :)

That is lovely penmanship. I think anyone will be well pleased with handwriting like that - and you achieved that in just 3 weeks!

I would love to see your progression into Spencerian and then Ornamental Penmanship if you choose to learn these next.

Thank you for sharing.

Absolutely superb work and I almost hesitate to offer any suggestions for improvement, as it already looks great.

If I had to be nit-picky, your "harpoons" (the opening upward stroke on the first letter of a word) is a little inconsistent (sometimes below the baseline, sometimes not) and the bottom of the "p" is a little inconsistent, but let me emphasize that this is the minor of the minor of the minor issues. It looks fantastic!

I add my compliments to the chorus of praise, with a motivating twinge of jealousy. I like it when people offer constructive criticism in addition to all the admiration; it has helped me too.

That is magnificent penmanship, I've been going through the Theory and Five Copybooks from mott media(Spencerian) for about 3 months now and while there are major improvements and consistency with my style - I can tell I'm not even close to the consistency and beauty of your accuracy.

Hats off to you!

Very nice, super duper consistent. My only suggestion would be to work on spacing your words apart a bit more.

Let me say it different.

This thread is depressing, cuz I've been working to improve my hand for a couple YEARS, and the OP is better after 3 WEEKS. :(

Excellent writing!!!

I can't find a thing wrong with it.

The writing sample in the OP and the one from 28 March post are highly highly legible.

I had a bit of struggle reading the one from 16 march, but looking at it closely, even that has excellent and very consistent letter form.

The only thing maybe is that you used a lighter ink.

Maybe it's more legible when you use blacks and dark blues.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
