Today as I'm getting ready to start week 8 I realized I scanned this but never posted. My inky love affair of the week.

I'm even worse than mhguda -- I didn't get the uploads done till this afternoon (but my excuse is that I spent several hours yesterday afternoon in an ER, after having a severe dizzy spell at an antiques show; nothing major, but I have to call an ENT specialist tomorrow morning because it's apparently an inner ear thing).

But in the meantime: fpn_1487639919__iotw_2017_7.jpg

Sadly the scan makes this a little redder than it really is (the paper is Tomoe River, and is cream, not white).

ETA: And the ink smells divine as well -- just like heirloom roses. Sadly, no recipient would get to experience it, because it's so fugitive, but for the writer?

It was the first Sailor ink I bought. Even though it has somehow fallen out of favour, it's still special to me in some way.

(It's probably also the ink of my first ink review  )

BTW Tas, I accidentally mixed something that reminds me of Cigar/Rikyu-cha. Are you still making mixes to match that colour? I mixed KWZI Aztec Gold and Grey Plum and got something quite lovely (I don't have C or R with me to compare though).

Interesting, I use it a lot less than I used to.

Remember my Cigar mix? Must've had 7 or eight inks in it. Bonkers. I've stopped most of that now but would love to see your Aztec-Plum mix.

That makes two of us. It sounds definitely interesting and unusual.

As I said I don't have Cigar or Ricky with me, so I'm relying on my memory...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
