Week #7 / 12 Feb: Week Of Love - 2017 Weekly Ink Project

Happy Valentine's Day! Choose an ink you’ll use to write love letters.

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

Click here to read more about this community project. Links to the two previous links can be found there too.

Next week is gonna be Iron-gall Week.

Well, LG, I have read this and written the love letters.

I used

  1. Diamine Red Lustre
  2. DiaminePoppy Red
  3. Private Reserve Sherwood Green
  4. De Atramentis Karmesin
  5. De Atramentis Brilliant Violet with Bronze
  6. Monteverde Canyon Rust
  7. Montblanc Royal Blue
  8. Super 5 (Rohrer & Klingner) Dublin

Pictures will follow.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My romantic spirit has taken a bit of a beating this last year, so no love letters from me. This is my slightly flippant entry. My love of ink endures.

Amber, you know me well! I love the fact that you chose a vibrant red to write to me.

For me as well, as long as I love a colour, i can use it to write love letter. One of my recent purchases is a very pretty luscious colour. I post something with it soon.

Dear Liz, I'm sorry you're feeling the blues, but glad you are feeling inky.

LG, I loved toucan for mixing but found it too dry and undersaturated in my initial tests. You, as always, make it look amazing.

KWZI Berry is yummy.

The love letter mentioned above was written on two pages of 20lb 92 brightness legal sized paper that we purchased for I remember not what reason, and for which I have nigh unto no use. I wrote another love letter to my wife on this same laid paper for St. Valentine's day, with the latest purple mix, in the same Prera with CM nib. While the edges of the lines were textured, there was nigh unto no feathering.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
