Week #3 / 15 Jan: When Old Loves Rekindle - 2017 Weekly Ink Project

Recommended Posts

The third week is coming! For this week we are going to ignite some old flames: Use an ink you once loved but somehow ignored for a long time.

As usual, don't forget to share with us your choice of ink, your writing, drawing, doodling or anything with the ink in this thread. You can take a photo, make a scan, or even better, write letters and CRV reviews (what is a CRV?) and mail them to the many ink pals here. You are welcome to check back on this thread even when we've gone past this week.

For newcomers, click here to read more about this community project. Links to the two previous links can be found there too.

Week #4 we are doing the theme "Red Packets Please": Use a red ink (especially a festive one) to celebrate lunar new year.

:D  :lticaptd:

It's a great bit of humor, Lgsoltek, very cool and I'm happy to take it as such ... but in all seriousness (and what kinda wacko gets all serious in this place? ), we're all here on this earth to love people and use things, not the other way around.

I'll be by with HoD later on, when I have fewer pens inked up than I do now (and two of them with black!). If that happens to be next week, or even later, well, that'll be okay.

An old love - Diamine Asa Blue. The first bottled ink I bought that wasn't black, or blue-black. And a favourite for a long time. I just really haven't used it in the last 2 years or so.

I have inked 3 pens with it, and I shall see how I get on.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have inks I use regularly - and even the less regular ones have been used at least once in the last month or so. And none of the ones I haven't used in a while are inks I would say I loved. I do have samples of inks I have never used, and samples I haven't used in months though. (Diamine Shimmer inks for example fit in both these catagories) I'll figure it out though.

I actually found two - again...

Actually the Dumas doesn't look so bad in the scan - I am keeping the pen close by for notes on loose paper. And in the meantime will enjoy rediscovering magic cashmere and shocking blue, which are great on both white AND yellow paper...

Might I just add, what a brilliant topic.

I've not used MBMB for a long time. Partly nervous of it running out (no more though, who cares, enjoy it) and partly because a lot of my mixes and ink searches were really all about trying to replicate it.

But as Thomas Wolfe pointed out . . ."You Can't Go Home Again".

Shame on me .

I'll now be using this baby a lot lot more.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
