Hello And Howdy

Hello,

Glad to be here. I write a lot in correspondence (domestic/international). I appreciate the digital age and its handiness at times, but tangible written correspondence needs to continue. Getting back into written correspondence improved my penmanship, which I hadn't anticipated. Oh happy day! This and the love of snail mail made me dust off my ink dip nibs. —Then started the love affair of calligraphy and ink!

A few months ago one of my correspondents in Colorado challenged me to try fountain pens. Just for trial purposes I got two. So here I am venturing into pen and paper alike... I have more paper than fountain pens! I've been planning to attend a pen show, alas the weather might keep me from attending. But I'd like my next fountain pen to have a good deal of flex in the nib, as I so love my ink dip nibs too.

I enjoy the craft of tangible writing and love to learn new things. Happy to be here and glean from the knowledgeable folk.

Hello!

How do you like your Eco? I"m getting it for my birthday next month, can't wait!

And you're right, writing actual letters are much more enjoyable. :)

Welcome! Hello from a former NJ/PA resident transplanted west!

Beware the contagion here..and the enablers who support the purchase of more and more pens, ink, and paper!

I like the feel in my hand (shape/weight). Mine flows too much for my taste. I may see what I can do with adjustments. I have an italic nib. I recommend the ECO. ....and Happy Early Birthday!! :)

Thank you! Must confess, that is computer generated (hangs head in shame) ;) Some of my dip nib work can be seen in photo at Creative Expressions> Calligraphy Discussions> What Do You Use Your Ink Dip Pens Most For?

Such a warm welcome, Thank you all. Hope to chat with you in the forum sometime. FYI, I now have a Stipula Splash Demonstrator. :D Not the flex I fell in love with at the Philly Show but I stayed in my budget and happy to add it to the family.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
