Ranga Handmade Clipless Cigar Fountain Pen

Hey everyone! Toyin here!

I am excited, because I got my first custom fountain pen. It is a Ranga clipless cigar style fountain pen.

Pardon me, as this is my first fountain pen review. I ordered a Ranga fountain pen from eBay, but the design I wanted was no longer available. I was able to talk with Kandan.M.P, and I had one with a similar design/color scheme made just for me. When I received it yesterday, I was blown away by the weight, feel, and polish on the pen.

Let me get into more of the specifics:

- this pen can be used with the included Schmidt converter cartridge or as an eyedropper pen

- this has a two-toned Jowo #5 fine point nib

- the pen is made out of premium ebonite

- the size of the pen when capped is 7 inches

- it writes extremely smooth, even when writing in script and fast

- the pen feels perfect when not posted, and it still has a good weight when posted(I wouldn't recommend using it when posted, because of the length)

My handwriting is more for speed than beauty. Yet, I included a little bit of a writing example, as well. Since this is a regular fine point nib, there is little line variation/little to no flex, but you can essentially write with it from any angle. Even writing with it in reverse(nib upside down) works.

I paid $107 for this premium ebonite pen. The pen feels excellent, and the quality of the craftsmanship is great! I definitely recommend getting a Ranga fountain pen, if you don't already have one!

Interesting pen although this color combination doesn't work for me :)

Yeah, it's an interesting color. I originally wanted a marbled red or swirly bluish white one, but this one reminds me of the news weather radar system, haha!

Now we know what pen the incredible Hulk would use... It's a beast

It is massive! Thanks!

No problem! I have a custom Shinobi that should be ready later this year. I might also have another custom pen coming later, as well.

Thanks GardenWeasel! It is weird at first, but I definitely love the weird color combination!

Not a design that appeals to me personally, but amazing ebonite swirls, and impressive workmanship. Congratulations on your purchase!

Congratulations! The fact that it was made for you is the best part. You'll know that every time you use it. Color combos aren't for what other people want; they are for what you want. I love the swirl pattern on the end of the cap. A good hard rubber pen for about $100 is a great value too. And if you have intruders, you can bludgeon them with something readily at hand!

Wow, that pen is FABULOUS! It's also huge, hahaha, too big for my hand! But a smaller version of it might be perfect. Hmm...

Enjoy it in good health, and thanks for sharing!

Very similar design to the Kanilea Kahakai fountain pen* though at a quarter of the price.

*there's not many radically new designs in the world of pens, perhaps unsurprisingly given its function.

Thanks everyone! I don't know if I'd want to do any blugeoning but maybe some light clubbing hahah.

They definitely have smaller pens, including an ebonite pen on the shape of bamboo. I'd recommend them, for sure!

I really don't understand why the cap colour configuration looks so different from the body of the pen...is that the idea? To me, it ruins the aesthetics sadly.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
