Another of the Penbbs inks, a fairly new one, someone thought the Chinese characters translate as "Gamboge", a fugitive yellow to yellow-orange color made from garcinia gum resin.

 

I'm not fond of yellow inks, but I can see why folks that do would like this one — a lot of shading.

 

Pen: Edison Premiere (M-steel)

Papers: MvL=Mohawk via Linen, TR=Tomoe River, Hij=Hammermill 28 lb inkjet, Rhodia=Rhodia 90g ivory.

It is more interesting when you do it, then when I tried it. Thank you for the review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well I do think the images make the ink look darker than it really is. Yellow is never dark.

Gamboge was one of my favorite yellows back when I did watercolor.

 

Monitors being what they are (or it's possibly my color perception), would you say that this shades to tan/gold or to orange? It does look gold-ish in your samples to me.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Gamboge, or more accurately a modern New Gamboge replacement, was always on my watercolor palette. Great color.

 

Definitely gold/deep yellow. No orange.

Thanks, lotus, I'll keep this one in mind.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
