Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

Diamine Imperial Blue was first produced in 2005 as a limited edition to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the formation of the Writing Equipment Society. This first batch had a special 25th Anniversary silver label as well as the usual Diamine label. A year later, at the end of 2006, the ink went on general sale but still labelled "WES" for "Writing Equipment Society". From what I see now it's called just Imperial Blue.
Anyway the ink is quite vibrant violet blue that's quite pleasant to look at. I haven't experienced any flow issues or other misbehavior. In finer nibs the ink will look much less saturated. If you enjoy blurples this one won't disappoint you.

Thanks for the review, Vis! This ink has been and still remains one of my favourite blues for years. Somehow there is something very British about this colour. I've never read that before, anywhere, I just have that feeling. It's not very famous i.e. much talked about but your review should get more members taking it into consideration.

Thank you. I enjoy this ink and think it's great for reproducing the mimeograph color.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
