mehandiratta
I was planning to purchase a Sailor King of Pen with specialty nib but they are nowhere to be found online. What with the update? Is it true that they have stopped making those nibs completely or have put a temporary halt on these. I plan to buy Cross Music Emperor Nib and any help will be appreciated. vaibhav mehandiratta architect & fountain pen connoisseur blog | instagram | twitter
twdpens
The Sailor factory stopped taking new orders for pens with the special multi-layer nibs at the end of 2015 as demand was much greater than supply. My advice is to phone/e-mail around to see what stock is available. HTH, Martin The Writing Desk Fountain Pen Specialists since 2000 Facebook Twitter

twdpens
No, sadly we sold our last KoP models with special nibs last year. We can't order any more yet. HTH, Martin The Writing Desk Fountain Pen Specialists since 2000 Facebook Twitter
Barry Gabay
Try Anderson Pens (Appleton, WI), Fountain Pen Hospital (NYC), or Total Office Products (Atlanta, GA). All have extensive experience with international sales. I have seen KoP fountain pens with specialty nibs at all of those locations within the past year. Good luck. Moderator, am I allowed to mention specific retailers here? My apologies if not. Please delete my contribution if necessary. Mehandiratta, try William Pen stores. The one at City Walk Mall in Delhi has had KoP with specialty nibs, although it has been a couple of years since I was in that store. Good luck.

jmccarty3
You might also try calling Classic Pens (nibs.com) in Los Angeles. They have extensive experience with specialized Sailor nibs. Also, if I were looking for something unusual, I'd send an email to Sarj Minhas. It might be that he has one of these from someone who bought it and didn't like it. Brian Anderson
Does anyone have any leads on when Sailor will start making the speciality nibs again (if ever?) Naginagta-Togi are now being quoted 12 months lead time. All other specialty nibs are not an option for the foreseeable future. I was told a few months ago that orders for non Naginata-Togi nibs were in the magnitude of thousands of orders behind. I wouldn't expect being able to order them for at least another 12 months, and then perhaps a 12 month lead time from there, but that's just a SWAG. www.esterbrook.net All Esterbrook, All the Time. I think its interesting that Sailor decided to stop producing them because there was too much demand! That sounds counter-intuitive to me, but I'm not in the fountain pen production industry. :-) I hope they have some junior craftsman who might be able to step into the big shoes of Mr. Nagahara and get the specialty nib shop running again. I think it's a pretty good move, to stop taking orders rather than take orders and then endlessly delay stuff. I know an Indian pen maker who tries to bite off more than he can chew, and then just disappoints people with endlessly delayed delivery dates. Since sailor has stopped taking orders, they can at least deliver pens on time which they have promised. It's a better situation to be in than taking orders after orders and lagging behind on delivery. Since the orders have reached thousand (according to Anderson Pens), you are probably looking at a wait period of over 2 years, that's assuming they even open the orders right now. My understanding is there are two craftsman working with Yuki Nagahara. I believe they are making Naginata-Togi only, and the output I have been told is 10 nibs per day (I think per person). www.esterbrook.net All Esterbrook, All the Time. gerigo
I have been lucky enough to have purchased quite a few specialty nibs this past year. I purchased a Fude nib as well as a naginata broad and a cross point nib in Japan around August or so. I was also able to purchase a Cross Concord in Singapore. Stupidly I said no to a King Eagle as well as a Cobra. You just need to be at the right place at the right time. It's just that the production is slow and that Sailor is trying to catch up with the demand. There is no indication they are stopping production.
Mon34480
Is it true that they have stopped making those nibs completely or have put a temporary halt on these. To my knowledge because of the passing of Nagahara (Sailor's legendary nib meister who essentially created their line of specialty nibs) everyone rushed out to get their hands on one of his nibs and they were obviously unable to keep up with the demand and decided to temporarily stop production. Wow this is incredible. I wonder what will happen. His son was going to be taking over I believe, someone explained to me that alot of the sailor specialty nibs need to be individually inspected and shaped and the unexpected influx of demand they got completely swamped with orders and decided to temporarily stop? Kinda like when Kato passed away (famous celluloid pen maker in japan who also worked with visconti) within a day their remaining stock of pens was depleted and the day after non of his pens on any sites nor on the secondary market could be found. The Sailor website (which is in need of an update) indicated at the time of Nobuyoshi Nagahara's passing, Yukio had been attending pen clinics for the past six years, that would put it back to at least 2009, if not before. All of the Sailor Bespoke nibs are ground by hand, so they do not benefit from the efficiency of production the standard nibs do and do require someone to inspect and test each nib. www.esterbrook.net All Esterbrook, All the Time. Tintafuego
I've always understood that the Emperor tab was meant to be used with a bottle of ink (to dip the pen) besides to your usual suply of ink (cc, piston). That way ink is collected in the tab like in a dip pen and you have to sources of ink, or a secondary feed. Am I totally wrong? And I am also looking a NT Med Fine, but there are nowhere to be found...
