I'm pretty darn impressed. It is my first ebonite and now I need another ebonite pen for some reason. Saw the Ranga 3 Duofold "short" and ASA Genius move onto my list :P .

Ratnamson 42 (Small) in BHR, with a custom handmade 14Ct Gold nib. You might be able to catch a glimpse of my name engraved on it. Smooth wet F nib. One of the better pen purchases this year.

My first Indian made fountain pen, received yesterday - Click Aristocrat. Filled at the moment with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black.

A classic design, good writer, good price.

Today I am using my first new pen for 2018!

A Deccan masterpiece, in black ebonite, with one of their NEW (F-M) gold nibs.

The nib has a touch of give. I have inked it with Robert Oster Astorquiza rot.

The ebonite compared to other Deccan black ebonite pens is very glossy. happy.... :)

Hari, a couple of pictures.

They mentioned that the nib was made by Kanwrite (Kanpur writers?) and tweaked based on their feedback.

Nib looks like an Aurora.

Nice pen and thanks for the pictures. If I may ask, how were you able to purchase the pen? As far as I know, one cannot purchase a Deccan fountain pen anywhere online.

Thanks for the pics ridearound.

The clip also is new.

Have they used the traditional ebonite feeder? Is the pen dropper filled?

I was in Hyderabad, so walked into the Abids store and found this one.

Yes the clip is new. It is their traditional ebonite feed. Once I put a few fills through it, I might pull the feed out and have a look to see if they have changed anything. It is an eyedropper. It was made by Akthar ( the elsest brother).

Hari, the following may be of some interest:

- they have changed the clips on the new advocates.

- the advocates now come in fine and broad kanwrite nibs, I though I spotted a medium too (not 100% sure) (no abitious nibs in the current batch).

- you can now get a steel coloured nib to match the clip on an advocateI thought the old mismatch had a charm (& reason) to it.

- they had a long desk pen with a 1.8/1.9 oblique italic nib on it. The nib has two breather holes.

I will post a few pictures of the above in a couple of weeks when I return to Hyderabad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
