What Indian Pens Are You Using Today - 2021 ?

Yes the clip is new. It is their traditional ebonite feed. Once I put a few fills through it, I might pull the feed out and have a look to see if they have changed anything. It is an eyedropper. It was made by Akthar ( the elsest brother).

Hari, the following may be of some interest:

- they have changed the clips on the new advocates.

- the advocates now come in fine and broad kanwrite nibs, I though I spotted a medium too (not 100% sure) (no abitious nibs in the current batch).

- you can now get a steel coloured nib to match the clip on an advocateI thought the old mismatch had a charm (& reason) to it.

- they had a long desk pen with a 1.8/1.9 oblique italic nib on it. The nib has two breather holes.

I will post a few pictures of the above in a couple of weeks when I return to Hyderabad.

Just got a Deccan Advocate for Christmas. Posting some pictures.

Thanks ridearound. The Deccan updates are interesting to know.

Some of their design changes happen due to unavailability of hardware like clips. If the elephant snout clip is the new standard clip for the Advocate, I am glad I bought my advocates early. There is an article by Jai reg the evolution of this model on his blog. My topic on this subject written on FPN is now missing the pics due to the blessings of photo bucket. Similarly I saw some recent pics of the new author with a vastly different clip. The beauty goes. But I am happy Deccan continues to churn out something or the other.

I am very interested to see any more pics that you might like to share in due course.

A Ranga Model 3 eyedropper from a group buy here (possibly around this time last year or the year before) with a section shaped to match a vintage pen I have which is extremely comfortable, filled with Noodlers Black Swan in Australian Roses and fitted with a Waterman Emblem pen nib. Ill be using this pen until Valentines Day.

And a Pelikan M101N Tortoiseshell Brown filled with Pelikan Edelstein aventurine. This is one of my favorite pens, and I find it to be a very pleasant writer with just the write line size that on ink resistant paper it has a wider downstroke than crosstroke.

I'm using my Ranga Emperor with Birmingham Pen Co. Oxidized Brass ink. Ranga's new model is a great pen and a fine addition to their product line.

Ooooh, I love the Rose gold Jinhao x750. Got mine inked with Noodler's Air-Corps Blue Black flowing perfectly out of a Goulet Medium.

Haven't tried a Gama so I can't ay anything otherwise.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
