There's Ambitious whose JoWo compatible nib units are available online. Not sure if their nibs are otherwise available directly.

There's also Abhay Pen Agencies who make their own nibs for their Mohi pens.

Thanks! I see that Gama uses Ambitious nibs.

oh sorry, I had confused PLP and Gama, PLP gives you a choice about nibs!

Today, I took my new Wality/Airmail 71JT (No.8, Fine) for a short test drive. I've heard enough good things on this forum about these pens, so if this one works out, I may purchase a few more. Loading the ink and priming the nib/feed was effortless. The nib writes smoothly out of the box, and the ink flow via the ebonite feed is nice but not overly wet. I loaded the pen with some of my Bril Green ink from India, which seemed appropriate. I took the opportunity to recheck the Bril Green ink against my "faux" Bril Green ink mix in my Ranga 4CS.

Also, this pen has that "smell" some have mentioned, but that is part of the charm.

For me, it's not a big deal.

:)

Before ordering my Wality 71JT, I snooped around regarding Indian No.8 nibs, as this would be my first time dealing with this size nib. Kanwrite No.8 EF nibs do show up for sale every now and then. Also, on the Airmail website, they show and note the following:

"Nib No. 8 Chrome, Copper, & Flash Gold with Fine Point, Two Tone with Medium Point & Chrome with Calligraphy Cut."

While I have the airmail WALITY fine and medium in no 8, I haven’t encountered the calligraphy cut nibs. The calligraphy nibs are available in the no 5 Indian size. If you ever find a calligraphy nib in Indian no 8 pls do share pics.

the Indian no 8 is closely related to sheaffer sizing. Same size as the nib in a no nonsense.

I have a Wality 69 that rocks a Shaeffer NN feed with the bone-stock Wality Fine nib.

If I want EF I have a Wality 70 with the Japanese F nib from a Pilot Tank. I don't use it that much. The section isn't a comfortable fit, too narrow.

I have bought several Ranga pens because they have a section width that is comfortable for me. Not the giant pens. I have several Abhimanyu & one Markandeya. The Markandeya has a clip, Abhimanyu does not. Ranga have some quite remarkable Acrylic rods that seem more like confectionary.

  • 2 weeks later...

This week I was using my Gama Eyas among other pens. I realized that although I love black matte ebonite and the historical feeling of indian Fountain pens with the classic eyedropper filling system, it might not be ideal for me. I've endured pens burping before and can live with it, but my Eyas sort of exploded with ink leaking out all over. It was a lovely blue ink, but I prefer my ink on the paper or in the pen. I imagine the pen was not full and I went from a warm to a cool place. Sigh.

It was more frustrating as I was en route to a meeting, so I went with blue hands, and am happy it didn't stain my clothes or anything. Not a happy experience. I'm sure I'm not alone so I will share the good news from this was that I was able to verify that Lava soap (made with pumice!) indeed gets that pesky ink off those blue hands. It had been mentioned on a video by Fountain Pen Therapy, and I thought I would pass on the endorsement. Apparently it is a soap of choice by car mechanics as well.

You didn't stain your shirt? Then that doesn't count!  :)

I've worked on cars and would rather deal with staining than use Lava Soap (with pumice). That stuff also takes my skin off.

I thought there was another non-abrasive product that works just as well, but I'm not sure what the product name is. I'm long overdue for a large ink spill, too.

Unfortunately that's how stuff like Lava Soap works -- taking the top layer of skin off to get rid of the stain.

Thanks @tommym and @inkstainedruth for your explanation of how Lava soap works. I didn't notice any difference beyond clean hands, but maybe I should just wear gloves when I clean out my pens. I don't mind inky fingers, but my better half is less than impressed those days.

And yes, I've lost a few decent shirts to ink stains. I rarely go clothes shopping these days otherwise. Maybe if I thought of shirts as "pen carriers" I might be more excited to go clothes shopping  :)  I just have to remind myself not to get a pocket protector.

Have a good weekend folks!

Yeah, I wore plastic pocket protectors for decades. I don't have a clue where I got them from.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
